Hi there!
I don't think we've ever talked... I'm Brenda from Elkhart, married 05-21-05. I feel like I've been around the knot/nest forever. :-)
I noticed in your signature that you have Lupus Anticoagulant. My mom has Lupus Anticoagulant.
She was able to have two children, and had two miscarriages.
She found out about her condition probably five years ago, and thirty-years-after-the-fact, finally has a likely explanation as to why she miscarried.
Anyway, just wanted to say Hi and to let you know that I am living proof that women with Lupus Anticoagulant can have babies. :-)

Re: ***perfectpeach***
Brenda,
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this with me. I cannot tell you how much it means to know that other women out there care enough to reach out and share their stories in order to uplift each other. Dh and I are very hopeful that this was the cause of our 2 miscarriages last year and that from this point on any pregnancy will STICK! We have a beyond fabulous OB who gave us some really good statistics and right now all I have to do is take a daily baby aspirin. Deep down, I'm almost glad that something showed up on our lab work b/c now I feel like I can really let go of all the emotional guilt I had for thinking that our miscarriages were my fault.
How is your mom? Was there something that came up 5 years ago that made her MD want to do some testing?
Kisses
Peachy (Julie)
My mom had one baby, then a miscarriage, then another baby (me), then another miscarriage. Her first miscarriage was early in the first trimester, and her second one was a little further along in the mid-second trimester.
She was diagnosed a few years ago because she got really sick and the doctors had no idea what was really wrong with her, so they ran a series of tests looking for anything and everything.
She started getting bad vertigo, and couldn't keep any food down. She went to her doctor, and while she was in his office, she fainted. He immediately put her on an IV, and then she started vomiting uncontrollably. He sent her to the hospital.
She was in the hospital for about two weeks, getting test after test after test, and just trying to get better. It was a good six months before she was completely "back to normal" and back to a healthy weight.
The doctors were able to definitively tell her that she has Lupus Anticoagulant, plus a thyroid problem. They weren't sure that either would cause the problems that she was having (they were leaning more toward the thyroid causing them), but she got better during her stay. She's on medicine for her thyroid, and a daily aspirin, and hasn't gotten sick like that since. She's the picture of near-perfect health now.
When they found out that she had Lupus Anticoagulant, one of the first things that they asked her was if she had ever had a miscarriage.
When she had her miscarriages, she had already had two healthy births, so they didn't run any tests.
Anyway - the point is, she had two (wonderful, if I say so myself) children with her condition.
Did your doctor mention if there was any genetic disposition to this condition? I mentioned it to my gyno when I told her we were going to TTC, and she didn't act like it would be a problem for me. Does anyone else in your family have it that you know of? Did your mom have any miscarriages?
Anyway, big ((((hugs)))) and lots of ***sticky baby dust*** coming your way. My husband and I are also TTC - this will be our third month trying.

Brenda~
What great news about your mom....I'm so glad that things are well with her now. My mom did have one miscarriage, but it was after she had all 3 of us (with no problems), I'm not sure if it's genetically linked or not, but I've already informed my younger sister so that when she and her Dh are ready to TTC they can run a screening test on her so hopefully she won't have to go through what Dh and I have.
We're onto cycle #2 of TTC now....we started TTC this cycle, but since I wasn't on a baby ASA through the whole cycle I didn't feel comfortable continuing....so, we're anxiously awaiting a little follie to drop an egg in about 2 weeks so we can try for our first little sweetpea!!!
I'm so glad that you reached out to me, we will have to keep in touch on our TTC journey
