Breeders' Cup Anyone?

Anyone watching the Breeders' Cup tomorrow or Saturday?

I hate the two-day format. I wish they'd cut it back to one day of maybe 8 or 10 races. But they are really cheapening the fields with this two-day crap.

I'm excited to see Zenyatta take on the boys. It's about time she faces a tough field.

Careless Jewel looks very strong in the Distaff (I refuse to call it the Ladies' Classic) and it'll be interesting to see how Zensational deals with the inside post in the Sprint.

Anyone else a fan of horse racing?

Re: Breeders' Cup Anyone?

  • My grandpa spent his retirement raising and racing thoroughbreds, so I've had an education in the sport.  I like two day events.  There are more horses and people involved, and the whole thing isn't over in the span of a couple hours or worse, revolve around a single race that lasts a minute and a half.  I like the two-day format.  It provides more to watch.

As for the cheapening thing, don't they award more money in one day than any other sport?

  • I didn't mean that the purses were cheap. They definitely aren't.

I meant that they were kind of weakening the quality of their fields by creating too many different championship races. Especially when they added the "Dirt" Mile. Many of the horses that are running there could be running in the Classic and have a shot. But the BC added the extra race so now you have the runners divided into two fields. I think it just dilutes the quality of the Classic field to some extent.?
