best place to register domain name and web hosting

Which site is the best to register a new business domain name and also for web hosting?  Any advice ladies?

Thanks

Re: best place to register domain name and web hosting

  • I've bought some cheap domains and hosting before, and I can say from experience that in general you get what you pay for.  The site I put together for our wedding worked fine, but the hosting died months before it was supposed to expire (at least it was after the wedding) and I couldn't get ahold of anyone to fix the issue.

What type of hosting are you looking at?  How much traffic do you expect?

  • I'm a distributor of Body Magic a womans reshaping garment.  I'm expecting a lot of traffic and want to have my own site for my customers.   I looked at fat cow,  host monster, bot I really have no idea.

Someone told me to just register our name for now and continue to research until I find one that I am comfortable with.

  • I'm sure there are more frugal options out there, but my husband has had nothing but positive experiences with GoDaddy's customer service & that's who he uses.

  • I've used both 1&1 Internet and GoDaddy and would recommend both.
  • godaddy.com and slicehost.com

"They say with time it gets better. Not true. With time you only get used to it."
  • I've used several hosting companies over the years, but recommend GoDaddy. They do have good customer service!
  • I design web sites for a living, and GoDaddy is one of my most-hated places to use when clients come to me with their hosting. They nickel and dime for most features, and things are buried in illogical places. Any time you want to add something to your account, there are five screens of "Here's some more stuff you can add!" before you actually get to a checkout page. Just... bad.

I'm a big fan of Dreamhost.com - I've been with them for several years and been very happy with their service, and you get a ton of bandwidth and storage for the price. Bluehost.com is another good one.

  • i currently have godaddy and i can attest that they really do nickle and dime you. i think the service is okay, but the website layout is confusing and it's hard to find the right place to do things. i've also used fortunecity and wouldn't recommend them either.
