When do you put up your Christmas decorations?

Normally it's always the day after Thanksgiving.  I'm having the entire family here for Thanksgiving and it's a lot of work.  I did it last year.  I did all my Christmas decorations the next day and I was just exhausted and didn't even get to enjoy it.  I was thinking about putting up the tree the day before Thanksgiving since the whole family would be here.  Am I crazy?!

Re: When do you put up your Christmas decorations?

  • I typically wait about a week after Thanksgiving. I like a bit of "down time" between the two. And I also take my time with it. It might take me a couple of days / evenings, but then I'm not exhausted and stressed when I'm finished.
  • We usually start on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It gives us a few days to recover from the holiday. DH loves xmas, so he likes to decorate ASAP! He'd probably decorate Thanksgiving evening if I let him.
  • I've done it a day or two before Thanksgiving before so that we can all enjoy it that day. I don't think it's weird to do it a few days early.

  • This year I'm going to do the day after thanksgiving since I'll be off. ?But usually they didn't get put up until a couple weeks into December. ?I'm so excited to decorate!!
  • I will start ours about the first week of December. I have not decorated for Christmas since 2004 so I have to find the boxes. I also want to wait and get the tree around the first weekend in December.
  • We will be decorating before Thanksgiving.  Its when we will have the time, and besides- I cant wait!! :)
  • i always do it after thanksgiving. doing it any earlier just doesn't feel right to me.

  • We always do ours the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We have a huge party the Friday night after Thanksgiving and I am afraid some of my Christmas stuff would get broken.

  • We always go to cut down our tree the day after Thanksgiving and spend the day decorating.  One of my favorite days of the year!!
  • Usually the weekend right after Thanksgiving. I am off Black Friday and of course that weekend so it it the perfect time to do it before I get to busy to enjoy decorating.

  • We usually start the weekend after Thanksgiving. And then we get the tree the first weekend of December, so about a week after we start putting up most of the decorations. I think your family might like seeing a tree when they come over, may just put them in the holiday spirt and they'll go home and start setting up their own ;)
  • I usually start pulling things out of the attic the Sat after Thanksgiving and start putting out the smaller stuff during the week, and then the tree, lights, etc the week after.  This year we're having DD's birthday party that Sat (after hosting Thanksgiving, eek!), so it'll probably all happen the second week this year.

And yes, I think putting up your tree before Thanksgiving is a little nuts, and I love Advent/Christmas.

  • We put up our tree on December 1st, in honor of my grandmother's birthday - but we'll be out of town this year :(

Everything will probably go up the first weekend in Dec.  Which is on schedule for the outside, but behind schedule for the inside.

  • Usually right after Thanksgiving.  It's one of my favorite holidays, so I can't wait.

  • We usually do all Christams decorating the day after Thanksgiving. However, I have to work that day this year so it will either get done when I get home from work that night or on the Saturday. It is a tradition in our house to do it the day after TG but looks like we have to break that tradition this year Sad
  • I used to put them up the day after thanksgiving.  But since DH hates xmas they go up the first week of Dec along with the tree.

  • we always start putting out stuff the day after thanksgiving, but it takes a good week or two to get everything out and where it should be.
  • A few days after Tgiving.

  • The day after Thanksgiving and the weekend after. Sometimes it takes awhile.
  • we'll put the lights out early, so we don't freeze! The big decorations make their appearance about a week or two after Thanksgiving.
  • We'll probably wait a week or two after Thanksgiving.  I'm hoping to get some good buys on some new decorations on Black Friday.
  • On Thanksgiving night after we've eaten we go get our tree. We give it a few days to settle so the branches fall then we decorate it. The only problem I've found with this is it starts to wilt about two weeks before Christmas even gets here. But I can't help it, I want to get as much time out of that tree as I can Smile

  • I think honestly what ever you are wanting to do is fine. DH and I just got married in July, but when I was living with roommates we always decorated after Thanksgiving break. My mom always does it the day after Thanksgiving, or whenever Im home to help because she doesnt love decortating anymore. Im planning the week after Thanksgiving since we will have company that weekend. I have a friend who put her's up today!
