question about raspberry bush

Do I have to do anything to them before winter sets in? This whole gardening thing is new to me. Thx!

Re: question about raspberry bush

  • Are they new bushes?  I'd cut back to the main stem, like a grape vine - those things are craziness if out of control
  • How big is it? you may want to trim it down, because those things can get pretty unruley.  Also, they are a home for spiders.... ewwwwww..... so the less time they have to nest and reproduce, the better!

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • We cut each plant back to a handful of short canes (down to one or two the first few years) and mulch very heavily around the plants.  We're in Zone 5, so that's mainly to protect the roots if and when we get an arctic frost.  This time of year they look so sad- barely sticking out of the mulch- but by August they'll have reclaimed their corner of the garden and we'll be getting 2+ Cups a day!
