I know this probably gets asked a million times on your board, so I apologize for adding to that.
DH and I are coming to Vegas at the end of September to celebrate our 5th anniversary, and I need help deciding where to stay. Neither of us has ever been to Vegas before so any general information/tips you can give me will be very helpful.
The top places on our list that we're considering are MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Caesar's Palace and the Mirage. What can you tell me about these places (besides the general info I can find on the internet), and which would you recommend for a first-timer?
Also, what are the best shows to see and what are the things we absolutely must do? I'm not a huge gambler, but DH wants to hit the blackjack tables. We were thinking of possibly renting a harley for the day to drive around and see the scenery. I haven't looked yet to see how far away the Grand Canyon is to see if that's a possible day trip.
Anyway, any insiders info/opinions you can give me are greatly appreciated. We haven't been on a vacation in about 3 years so we'd like to make the most of our anniversary and time off.
Thanks!
Re: Need hotel recs/info please!
Congrats on your anniversary! I would recommend that you post on the travel board as it's much more active than this board. Here's my recommendation. Since it's your first time, I'd choose Bellagio, Caesar's Palace or Mirage of the ones you've mentioned. These three are centrally located on the strip, while MGM and Mandalay are further South. I especially like Mirage because I love the pool. You will find the minimums cheaper (meaning you can bet less on each hand) at Mirage than either Bellagio or Caesars, so if your husband wants to gamble, this is something you may want to take into consideration. Just make sure to ask for a renovated room away from the construction. If Caesars and Bellagio are in your price range, check out either one, preferably Bellagio.
Check out fatwallet.com and try to find the Vegas hotel deals thread. People post the discount codes for the strip resorts, so you can find some great deals there.
For shows, check out any of the Cirque de Soleil shows. They are all fantastic, but the best ones IMO are Mystere and Love. O is also supposed to be fantastic.
We are also going back to Vegas to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We are staying at the Signature MGM Grand b/c we love the pool there and also they have a monorail station there so it makes it quick to travel up and down the Strip.
In the past we've stayed at the Bellagio and the Mirage. Both are very nice, but the Bellagio has a much more romantic atmosphere. If you are coming for your anniversary then I would recommend going on a gondola ride( at the Venatian hotel) and then Dinner at The Alize(the Palms) or Top of the World(the Straosphere) restaurants. Both give you an incredible view of the Strip(especially at night).
The must see's are the Siren's show at the TI, The volcano at the Mirage, The fountains at the Bellagio, the viewing tower at the Stratosphere, Fremont Street, and The wax museum at the Venetian just to name a few.
As for show's, we love the Mac King comedy show at Harrah's, Lance Burton 's magic show, or any of the cirque de soleil(sp?) shows. Cher is also doing a show at Ceasar's now too.
Congratulations on your anniversary. Las Vegas is a great place to go on your anniversary. We visit every year and simply love the place. Your choice of hotels are good. I alway advise people to stay on the strip because the cost of going to and from the strip everyday off sets whatever you are saving staying off the strip.
We have always got great deals on Vegas hotels and the way we do it is through promo codes. Never book a room without one. Not only do you get discount prices, sometimes you get some added freebies. Here is a site we always check for discount codes. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.php Hope you have a great time in September.
I came to the board to ask the same questions. Dh and I are going in October to celebrate his 30th bday... and to see Jimmy Buffett. He's playing at the MGM.
Thanks ladies for the recs.
