So I woke up yesterday with a case of the sniffles...no coughing or other symptoms, just a random runny nose. I've been planning for this dinner party with my girlfriends for a few weeks, and it's been so hard to get everyone's schedules to align. I am tempted to cancel the dinner tonight because I don't want to get everyone sick, but at the same time, I feel like the party should go on. Opinions?
Re: Lame!
Do you think you are contagious?
Then cancel.
If not, then on with the show!
I have been sick with a sinus infection. I took some severe cold pills and I was pretty impressed with how I felt and my nose stopped running.
I know how hard it is to plan get togethers. Sorry you are not feeling well.
The party should go on! Really, the case of the sniffles is going to make you cancel?! If my friend told me that, I would be pissed!
Uh, this is only partially true, especially if it's viral. Cold and flu viruses can live on surfaces for a long time. Someone can get sick by touching something you touched days ago after you coughed or sneezed into your hand. If you cough or sneeze or even give a big ol' exhale over the food, they can get sick.
And symptomatic is not equal to contagious. Taking meds to get rid of your symptoms does not take away viruses. It does help limit the virus' exit through mucus, saliva, etc but the viruses are still in your body and get still infect people (e.g. you lick sauce off your finger then put ice in someone's glass).
I still say go on with the show as long as you aren't feeling miserable but don't kid yourself about how contagious you are.
