Did I screw up my computer this am?

I splashed about a teaspoon of coffee on the keyboard of my laptop when I was starting it this morning.  It seemed to hang for a while and then I powered it off.  I tried to clean up the coffee as best I could.  Right now I have it sitting with the screen up so hopefully it will dry. 

Did I really screw up or is there a chance it might be okay?

There is a chance. Take out the battery and any connection to a power source, let it dry thoroughly. I had a friend who spilled most of a rum and coke on his lappy and after letting it dry, like you are, it came back for him.

As long as you make sure no power runs through it while it's still wet, you'll be fine.

I'm nesting from my laptop!  Thank you so much for the advise.  I turned a cool hair dryer on it for a while too.  Whew!

I am in the process of getting my mom's laptop keyboard replaced for her because I spilled some beer on it.  Oops!

I was not aware that you should power it down right away, and by the time I researched it, it had been on and wet for a little while.  Most of it came back, but there are still about seven keys that don't work, so that's why it's getting replaced.

However, you should never use a hair dryer on your keyboard.  Even at the cool setting, it can mess it up...and at the warm setting, it can melt the components!
