Hi everyone!
DH and I will soon be moving to fort wayne-yay! I would love any advice on all the new things we will need, doctors, dry cleaners, hair salons, etc. Anything you think we must check out would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance, you all always have such great advice.

Re: Fort Wayne Info
Hi there!
We moved from Noblesville to Fort Wayne last summer, and live on the SW side, which is called the Aboite area. I'm not quite familiar with the other parts of town yet, but the SW side is pretty nice and reminds me of Hamilton county. I get my haircuts at an Aveda salon called In Touch2o, and I think they have a couple of locations. There's a peerless cleaners that we use for drycleaning and they have been great. As far as doctors are concerned, I haven't found a good one yet and am still looking. Do you have children? I've done a ton of research on daycares and pediatricians when we were selecting one, so if you need any of that just let me know!
From a shopping perspective, there are grocery stores up here called Scotts, which are owned by Kroger and have the same sales, circulars, food, etc. There are 2 Target stores, one up by Glenbrook mall and another on the NE side. They are building one on the SW side, though, which I'm super excited about. There is also an outdoor mall similar to Clay Terrace or Metropolis and it's called Jefferson Pointe. They have all the normal stores like Old Navy, Bath & Body Works, etc, as well as Von Maur as their main anchor store.
Overall, we like it here and it seems like a very family-friendly place. Houses are inexpensive and they have tons of walking trails and parks. Headwaters park downtown has tons of festivals and activities most weekends. There's also the Wizards, the minor league baseball team. They have a stadium up by Glenbrook mall, but are building a new one downtown that will be open in a few years I think.
Sorry to be so long winded. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm far from an expert on the area but am happy to share what we've found during the last year!
Good luck with your move!
Make sure you check out the Three Rivers Festival. It's usually the second week of July, so it should be soon if it's not already going on.
Hi!
Thanks for the great advice! We are going to be living on the Northeast side. But are fairly framilar with most of Fort Wayne, so we have spent some time on the SW side.
I would love to learn more about the biking and walking trails, we love to do both.
At some point, I know the advice on pediatricians and daycares will be helpful, but for now our only child is our 6 year old dog, a welsh corgi. I found a great vet on the northside, but if you have any info on groomers or boarders, that would be awesome!
I am very excited about exploring the malls more, we have been living in a smaller town in NW Indiana and I am very excited to be closer to real shopping!
Thanks for the advice, it is really appreciated!
When I was a kid, we took our pets to Five Points Animal Hospital. Dr. Kumaran was our vet. I don't know if he's still there though. I would imagine that he retired since then.
As for boarders and groomers, I have no idea. Your vet might be able to recommend someone though.
The trails are called "River Greenway" in FW. I had many a good time learning to rollerblade on them. Almost all of the city parks connect on it.
i grew up on the north side of FW. i worked at the emergency animal clinic during my undergrad summers there, so you will have a 24 hour facility with board certified surgeons nearby for your furbaby.
depending on where you will be at on the north side, you may be close to Metea (sp?) park, that has a lake and wooded trails. (that was where ben prosposed to me!)
We always joked that fort fun was filled with churches and places to eat. there are just so many little restaurants and such everywhere it seems (Hall's, Banditos, Casa's)
Plus there is a minor league baseball team (FW Wizards) and a Hockey team (Komets) if you are into cheap sporting events. Besides 3 rivers festivfal in July, there is also a big Johnny Appleseed festival in the fall that is pretty cute.
As far as human doctors, i dont really know. i just had my pediatrician in the fort then moved away. for bording facilities, several of the vets on the north side offer bording (Dupont animal hospital still does, my SIL works there). Plus there are lots of little bording-only facilities. My parents have taken their labs to little "pet spas" they found in the yellow pages for when they were on vacation.
Thanks for all of the great info! Actually, our vet now referred us to Dupont vet clinic--not sure if that is the same as where your SIL works. They have been fantastic so far in helping get records transfered, etc. I will definatley look in to the pet spas, if we don't end up boarding her at our vet.
I have heard it called Fort Fun and I think that is super cute! We do love hockey, so we are really excited to be able to go to the Komets games.
Thanks very much for the insight, you ladies are fabulous! Now I just have to actually do all the packing for the move....:-)
