What outdoor decorations

Should I start with?

We have only interior decorations, and I want to go "all out" this year...

Any theme ideas, specific items to include, or preferences anybody would like to share?

Re: What outdoor decorations

  • My personal preference is for a pretty classic decorating style:  a nice wreath for the front door, some pine garland for draping around the door and/or on railings and then lots of lights for the garland and the bushes (if you have them) or little potted trees like these:  imagefor each side of your sidewalk/door.

  • I agree. I also like the reindeer on the lawn, but there is a line that people cross from being awesome to over done.
  • by going "all out" do you mean Clark Griswald all out, or nice tactful decorations???

IMO, white lights with greenery around the windows is ideal.  Candles in the windows, wreath on front door.  Done.  Maybe a couple of bows here and there.

I can not stand the inflatable decorations.

  • I do all white lights because I think they have a very classic look. Our "special" tree is placed right in front of our bay window and it has white lights on it. Then we take white lights and garland and wrap it around our railing and have red bows on the main parts of the porch. We also put the white lights on our bushes. Then we have white candles in our windows. Our wreath is evergreen with red bows and berries.

  • I like the white icicle lights on awnings, lighted garland on railings and the blow up lawn decorations. Also if you have a walkway the little light up things to line the path (candycanes, snowflakes etc.) Being able to see the chrismas tree thru the window is always a plus.
  • We have lights for our fence, and for the door and windows in the front.  Otherwise we don't "go all out" much.  For our neighborhood it's a lot.

I like outside decorations that are tastefully done.  I don't like when the entire yard is filled with stuff.  The simpler the better.

  • We are doing white icicle lights and one lit up reindeer and sleigh in the front yard. I also thought I would line the perimeter of the yard in white lights. Haven't made up my mind on that one yet.

  • Since it's been warm out I'm thinking of getting outside to set up the lights first (before it gets too cold to motivate me to do it).  I don't tend to light up decorations until after thanksgiving.

I'm big on the greenery around the doors and wreaths.

Amen! I hate those darn things!

I like clear lights, garland, and red bows. Add a reindeer or two (clear lights as well) and you're golden.

People in my area have started putting them out already. I havent seen them lit yet. It was 70 this past weekend, If I had my outside decorations I would have put them up too!
