Charleston nesties-hotel recs??

DH and I are planning our trip to Charleston in Sept. We don't know much about the area. Can you recommend any areas where we should look for hotels. We plan on doing touristy things (touring plantations, shopping, eating etc). We would love to be within walking distance of downtown I think. It seems like there is a lot of stuff down that way. Any recs or ideas would be great! Thank you!

Re: Charleston nesties-hotel recs??

  • DH and I (back when he was still DBF) stayed at the Church Street Inn right downtown. We were there over MLK weekend and it was absolutely gorgeous!!!
     Have fun!!!
  • Not sure why I popped on this board since I live in MI (most likely since I'm secretly hoping to move to SC some day soon since I LOVE it there), but when I was in Charleston for work which was often my FAV hotel to stay at was the Hampton Inn on Meeting Street. Great breakfast in the morning, super nice rooms, and within walking distance of lots of cool shops and restaurants and super easy on and off the highway (which also meant maybe 15 minutes to the new outlet mall BONUS!). Have a great trip!

i'd suggest staying no further north than john st/visitor center area (mile walking distance to the market-the main tourist hub but near the aquarium), no further west than coming st (college of charleston & musc housing there, not so touristy).  there are a lot of bed and breakfasts south of broad st, but not much business wise south of there for tourists (besides the battery & white point gardens at the peninsula tip and well if you just want to walk around and look at the old houses).  i know the holiday inn on calhoun is very affordable.

Oh and I forgot to say this one (Hampton) is right across the street form the visitor center. The Holiday Inn on Calhoun is nice and I've also stayed at the Francis Marion Hotel (right by the college). You can get some good deals on travelocity for this one. It's a nice hotel but I think the Hampton is still the best of all three.
