we are cooking our 1st thxgiving dinner!
it will be our 1st married and as a family thxgiving held and cooked by us, so we are very excited. we are skipping out on the traveling from house to house this thxgiving and just enjoying a good home cooked meal, enjoying the time off and being thankful for our little family
please share your favorite thanksgiving recipes since we have no idea where to start. dh is excited in cooking the turkey and even mentioned we should make a home-made pie lol
Re: thxgiving dishes!
My contributions to Thanksgiving are always garlic mashed potatoes and whole berry cranberry sauce.
Here is my blog post about the potatoes.
I haven't posted about the cranberry sauce yet, but it's super easy! Just take 1C. sugar and 1C water, bring to a simmer to dissolve sugar. Dump in 1 bag of cranberries and cook 10 minutes - or until they pop. Remove from heat, add in zest of 1 orange (lemon is OK too) and allow to cool completely before serving. It's actually best if you make it a day ahead.

We have found that turkey is really easy. The Butterball website had some great recipes.
My favorite Thanksgiving dish is Kentucky Bourbon yams. It's a recipe from my mom, but is pretty close to this

for the last 4 years I fried our turkey. this year I'm going to brine it over night and then roast it so we'll see how that goes. I'm using www.turkeyperfect.com ' s apple sage brine.
As for other recipes I do teh same as pp for cranberries. This year I'm trying two new recipes sausage and sage stuffing and candied yams with apples. I'm still looking for the right stuffing recipe but the candied yams with apples I got from Cooking Light.
sorry i'll tell you the things I make every year...
brown rice with gravy (I might have to work around this since I'm using a brine for the turkey I don't want the gravy to be too salty).
green beans
mac-n-cheese
pecan pie
homemade ice cream
