As of this morning Mr.Shoe and I are hosting Thanksgiving at our house with his family. I'm excited but Yipes! We have a LOT to do between now and then!

I was just debating on if I could afford to hire you to come decorate my house. LOL!
aw we can be nervous together! This is our first year hosting Thanksgiving! Counting us, we'll have 17 people!
Have you started planning your menu yet? Here's my game plan.
We're having:
appetizer: spinach goat cheese tartlets (buying the already made filo shells and making the filling a day ahead)
fried turkey
ham (using the crock pot recipe to minimize things needing to go in the oven)
bacon brussels sprouts - these taste better leftover so I'll make a day or two in advance
fall to your knees mac and cheese - will shred the cheese in advance so I just have to put together and bake
SIL is making gb casserole
Mom is making sweet potato casserole
G-maw IL is making some kind of pumpkin soup
Salad - think I'll assign MIL this task
I want to find a recipe for homemade cranberry sauce
Rolls - store bought, most likely - might assign this to my bro since they don't cook!
Pumpkin and Banana Mousse Tarte - will make 1 day ahead
Ginger Pumpkin Truffles - will make 2 days ahead - actually niece and nephew will make these
MH and I threw around menu ideas last week but that was when it was just going to be 2 of us. Here's what we came up with in our brief conversation this morning:
Turkey (is 10lbs enough for 7 adults & 4 kids?)
Rice & gravy
Oyster dressing
Sweet potatoes
Butternut Squash soup (still not sure about this)
Either peas or corn (and/or carrots?)
Mac & cheese
Homemade rolls
Cranberry pie
Salad (GMIL volunteered this)
MIL & SIL will probably bring at least one thing from the above list. I think I need some type of appetizer for people to snack on. I might do a cream cheese roumalade (sp?) with shrimp. That's easy to throw on a plate in the morning...
What am I missing?
I know that I'm completely missing the point, but I love oyster dressing. Both of those menus look fantastic.
Don't worry about it. You are both born chefs. You'll knock it out of the park!
Ditto this!!
It is my grandma's recipe and is sooo freaking good. It took YEARS for us to get her to part with it.
So, how long do you think it would take me to get you to part with it? It would make an excellend blog post!
With all of yours and your hubby's cooking skills I'm sure it'll be fine ... and delicious!
I have no morals. I can totally be bought.
But, can I afford you? I also deal in the barter system.
