WAS AWESOME!!
The opening act was just this one guy and his guitar and i thought he was pretty good. He had a throaty voice as well and sounded to me like a cross between John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne and Glen Hansard (from the Irish movie Once). Our friends who went to the concert last Thurs said their opening act sucked, so we must have had a different guy.
And then Ray comes out. He is so unassuming, even seems a little uncomfortable on stage and hearing all the cheers...but then he opens his mouth and this voice just *falls out*! Seriously, i am amazed with people who can do that. It was just him and his guitar too...oh, and a harmonica for 2 songs. Man is he talented!! I didn't know half of the songs he played (i don't have his first cd) but i was still blown away! I almost got teary eyed with his live renditions of Let It Be Me and You Are The Best Thing (seriously, ladies, find those songs and listen to them!). He sang You Are the Best Thing more like he actually wrote it and not like how they recorded it; i like the recorded version better, but the actual version is pretty darn sexy as well!
We had great seats and the sound was perfect...it was like we were just listening to a friend in his living room playing guitar and singing!! The crowd was a little chatty and kept requesting songs or saying he was 'amazing'. He went with it and started saying that everything was 'amazing'; 'chocolate cake is amazing', 'the color blue is amazing'. Pretty funny stuff.
Now i need his first cd, which is perfect cuz i got a $25 iTunes gf from friends as a bday present!!

I'm so glad the show was amazing!!! ;-) I really want to make sure I catch his next nyc show. I listened to those two songs - I love them both. And Trouble, and Jolene, and Hold me Now. Every time I listen to him it makes me want to do my first dance at our wedding all over again. lol
Have you heard the Ray L. & Damien Rice "to love a woman' duet? oh, its so goooood!!
