what is your FAVORITE restaurant?
howdy-
I'm trying to figure out where to go for my bday. I'm more interested in amazing food than I am fanciness. We live in Hancock Park/Larchmont but are willing to drive a bit for somewhere really good. The only thing off limits are seafood only places (I'm allergic)
I'm also curious about what you would consider the best sushi restaurant?
Thanks!
Re: what is your FAVORITE restaurant?
I just had an amazing dinner at Church & State - it's a new French restaurant downtown. The area is so-so, but once you're inside the place, it's gorgeous and homey, and the food is outstanding. I would recommend making a reservation, as they're always busy.
Other great special occasion places would be: Grace, The Bazaar, or The Foundry.
Best sushi in town has got to be Katsuya. Especially the crab hand roll. I could eat 5 of them right now. The original, low-key branch on Ventura, not the Philippe Starck showplace in Hollywood.
My favorite restaurant is El Morfi in Glendale. It's a really cozy family run Peruvian-Italian restaurant. They have everything from pizza to steak.
Engine Company Number 28 in downtown LA is also delish. They have a good variety of menu options and it's a fantastic atmosphere.
This may be too far but I love Del Rae's in Pico Rivera. They're known for their steaks but I also love the decor and the vibe. They usually have a band playing in the bar and have great wine but they are a lot pricier than the other 2. Good luck and happy birthday!
I second the Foundry on Melrose. we also love the restaurant at the Hotel Bel Air and Spago.
as far as sushi restaurants, Katsuya is good (we like the one in Hollywood, the one in Brentwood is terrible), Nobu, Blowfish. our favorite is Sushi and Kushi Imai in Beverly Hills on the corner of San Vicente and Wilshire. laid back and not too fancy, but the sushi is seriously delicious.
I've heard good things about Sushi Zo.
My favorite restaurant here is Hatfield's which is currently closed as it's moving to a new space.
The Bazaar is amazing.
Church and State is on my list as well.
We couldn't get a reservation at Church & State either - so we just showed up. It was about an hour and 15 minute wait (on a Friday night), and we were able to wait at the Irish pub next door, drink in hand. They even called my cell when the table was ready. Definitely worth the wait!
I am DYING to try the Bazaar - they supposedly have a weekend "high tea" special. Anyone tried it?
oooh good to know. i love french food.
a co-worker was just telling me about Bazaar...
