Thanksgiving - cooking anything? Food.
Is anyone hosting Thanksgiving dinner or making a special meal for the holiday?
We'll be in SF but I kind of want to bake a few pies to bring up there.
Any light recipes for pumpkin pie, or other lighter recipes that would sit for 7 or 8 hours in the car ok?
What do you plan on making?
If you're not cooking, any dishes that you're looking forward to eating?
Re: Thanksgiving - cooking anything? Food.
I am not cooking. Thank God.
I am looking forward to eating mashed potatoes and stuffing, as always.
I might bake an apple pie if I am feeling up to it. I usually use a recipe similar to this:

What about apple crisp? You can assemble everything and then put it in the oven when you get there. Although, with a car ride that long, you may just want to buy a pie when you get to the area.
I love Thanksgiving food. I'm not sure where we're going to eat in Vegas yet, but I'm glad I don't have to cook!
I'll probably make some kind of dessert since the meal is completely taken care of by my mom and grandma.
D- remind me to give you the recipe for the yummiest, SUPER healthy pumpkin pie later. The recipe is at home.
epicurious.com is usually my go-to site for fancy stuff, they usually have pretty kickass desserts.
another fave is smittenkitchen.com

during the holidays, eating light is the last thing on my mind. then again, that kind of applies anytime, but especially during holiday season.
i'll likely have a hand in cooking most of the turkey day meal. we'll probably brine the turkey and make all of the traditional sides - mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, yams, and maybe some creamed corn.
mmmmmm.
D my friend Antoinette makes the BEST pecan pies EVER. From scratch.
And she's selling them this year for $10 each.
She's giving me my order on the 22nd. If you want me to order you some speak up now
My favorite thanksgiving thing is greenbean casserole. Seriously- and so easy to make. So you could try that also!! It would do well on a long drive.
Any light recipes for pumpkin pie, or other lighter recipes that would sit for 7 or 8 hours in the car ok? I would probably just buy something when you get up there or have all of the ingredients in ziploc bags and make the pie when you get there.
What do you plan on making? I usually keep it really traditional. I brine a turkey, sweet potato casserole, green beans w/hazelnuts along with a green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy from the turkey, cranberry sauce that has chunks of walnuts, pineapple, orange and cinnamon, homemade rolls, and usually a pie for dessert.

I totally believe you. But I can't be near pecan pie, I'll eat like half of it. No bueno.
