Today my class learned how to perform the Heimlich maneuver and one girl raised her hand and asked the following:
"Can you do this on kids?"
Instructor said that it depended on how old the child was.
"What about my baby, she's almost two years old? I was wondering if I could practice on her."
Everyone looks at this girl all wild eyed and the instructor was like, "please do not perform the Heimlich on your two year old just for practice."
Re: Quotes from class
KB-I smell a blog coming on based on the scariness/randomness/ridiculousness of this class! People would love to read this shiite!! My BFF is a Nurse Practitioner and I loved to hear her stories. The one that sticks out most in my mind is when she was on ob/gyn rounds and turned to get the swab and 'lost' the speculum in a 450-pound lady! As in her fat literally caved in around it and it disappeared. OMG.?
Make a blog! ?
Things my instructor said today:
"I knew a really smart nurse that just couldn't handle emergencies. She ran like Japanese people from Godzilla."
"I don't need to go to the doctor to be diagnosed. I'll diagnose myself."
That is the best thing I have read all day. I have no words for this.
