That looks great!  My best friend also has that coffee table! LOL

The fact that it lifts up like that IS pretty convenient.    And now it looks so much better!  Win-win!

How did you end up painting it?

 

I have a table I made into a desk and would like to paint it.

I first sanded it down a bit, just enough to rough it up, I didn't go all the way to the bare wood (it ended up being wood after all, not as cheap as I thought it was!).  Then I used a Valspar primer on the entire thing.  I let that dry and then used a Valspar latex enamel in satin finish black, and did a thin coat.  I let that dry and did a second coat.  I used a Minwax water-based polycrylic top coat, and did 2 really thin coats, letting it dry in between.  I also did the frame of a small mirror I have (I did it first as practice) and I learned to let things dry really well before the next coat, and keep the coats pretty thin.  It was really easy, just a little time consuming!  But I say go for it!

that looks great! i have a table similar to yours that needs a little TLC. If your hankering for projects or things to paint your more than welcome to tackle my coffee table.

Oh well one day maybe i'll get around to it

It looks great, and I agree refurbishing things can get addictive.  I'm in the process of deciding how to paint my kitchen cabinets.
