neighborhood holiday house hop?

i need to know if anyone has done one of these or not...i have heard of them and i kinda have an idea of how i want to set it up, but was wondering if anyone had any participated in one or knew anything about them.

holiday house hop......you send out invites to all your neighbors on your street....you get about 5- 7 houses to participate in where they make an appetizer or cocktail at their home....and you spend about 30 minutes or more depending on how many peoples homes you have to visit that night....

that was how i envisioned it in my head.....i dont know if anyone has any other tips, but they are appreciated

Re: neighborhood holiday house hop?

  • We do something like this for the 4th of July.  Each home serves a snack or something small and a cocktail.  Some houses even add a fun activity.  For example, at one home they had a nice martini type cocktail and pabst blue ribbon (yuck).  if you made a free throw basket you got the martini, if you didn't you had to drink a PBR.  Another house we did an egg toss and the winning couple won a small prize.  You can really do so many things with it and its really fun.  Best part is since you're all neighbors you can just walk home and not have to worry about driving.
  • Google "progressive supper dinner" and you should find lots of info.  I haven't done one before myself.
  • we're doing this and i'm really looking forward to it. here's our plan.

    House #1 - drinks

House #2 (my house) - appetizers

House #3 - main course (i'm going to help with a side)

    House #4 - dessert

there's a 5th couple coming, but we don't want to pressure them to host b/c they have a lot of medical things going on right now.

  • We have done progressive dinners in my parents' neighborhood in the past and they were always fun. Now they've changed to just a potluck dinner at one of the homes, but it's still fun. We had 4 homes I think, but many more neighbors were invited to join and were assigned dishes to one of the 4 homes.
