need your decorating opinions!

so my bathroom is finally finished.  its the only room in the house that's complete.  Embarrassed   more pictures to follow when we get our act together and finish this renovation.  on the more positive note, i painted the cabinets and the walls all by myself.  yay!

i'm trying to figure out which bath mat to use?  what do you ladies think?  left mat (the brighter green one) or right mat (the more olive/yellow mat)?  any decorating rationale is welcome

PS - sorry about the sideways pictures.  I have no clue how to upload stuff using DH's Mac.  I'm a PC girl

Re: need your decorating opinions!

  • Definitely olive green mat, hands down. I think it goes very well with the cabinet color.  I don't think the other green matches the cabinets.  It immediately called out to me as not matching for some reason. I also think the other green is more of an ultra modern color, while the olive green is softer and more classic, while still modern.  Not sure if that makes sense.

Great job on the painting btw!  I am a horrible painter and jealous of your skills :)

  • I like the one closest to the brown hand towel. I feel that, that color is similar to the decor you have on the wall  (the round green object). I think the other rug looks to bright...the contrast between that rug and the wall color and the decor is to much.

  • Yep I agree with the girls the Olive color matt.  It does go nicely with the cabinets and the round item on the wall.  Nice bathroom by the way.  How did you paint the cabinets?  Was it with regular paint or a specific type of cabinet pain? If that exist.  LOL

  • i think i like the olive color as well.  BUT DH thinks it looks weird.  hmmph. and now that i keep staring at my pictures, i think the WHOLE bathroom looks weird.  maybe i shouldn't use green?  or maybe i need something in the corner by the towel?  like a pretty lime green orchid or a vase filled with limes?  or an aloe plant?  its looking more and more like a before picture not the after its supposed to be

the object on the wall is a clock i bought off of etsy - its carved bamboo and i thought it was perfect for the bathroom.

sstomps - i used the instructions provided on younghouselove.com to paint the cabinets.  basically, i sanded them down to remove all the gross varnish, then used an oil based primer, and painted 2 coats of regular old home depot paint.  behr toffee crunch.

here's a picture of what the bathroom looked like before.  (i remembered half way through the project to take a before picture.  there was also crazy striped wallpaper on the walls.  blech)

  • Don't second guess yourself! The olive mat looks great, it gives the whole room a little splash of color. I love the idea of a vase with limes and plants look great in bathrooms.

  • The olive one! I have a similar color scheme in my master bath. I actually painted the walls a tea green and I have brown and white towels. I love the combo!
