Fashion suggestions?

Hello all!

I am looking for some suggestions on what to wear to a wedding at a Charleston plantation with ceremony and reception outdoors. The date is July 26 at 6:30pm.

The time states, what I know as, formal but being that it is outdoors I am not sure if that changes things at all.

The invite gave no indication as to expected attire or colors.

I'd wear a nice "sundress" if it doesn't say Black Tie.  I wouldn't think you would need to dress very formally if it doesn't state BT and if it's outdoors.

I would wear a nice sundress as well. Something comfortable for outdoors but also a little nicer than your average cotton sundress. (but also keep in mind I got married outdoors this past April and people wore everything from jeans to dress pants to dresses..jeans I think are a bit tacky but it was my day, I didn't care!)

I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't make contact with the wedding party as to the expected attire for the occassion?

defenitely sundress or even maybe dressy capris. It is outside in SC, you need to stay cool, even the "formal" time doesn't mean formal dress if they don't tell you. As far as colors don't wear white!

Agreed with PPs.  You really could go two ways.  A nicer sundress could be easily dressed up with some fabulous accessories and shoes, or you could do a more cocktail-y dress and play down the shoes/jewelry.  Either would be perfectly appropriate.  Also, it's always better to be a little bit underdressed than over, but either of these would be simple enough.

My husband is going to contact them. The groom is an old suitemate of his from college and I have only met the bride and groom once. It was at our wedding. So, you have a good point but not one that I have control of which is why I was simply looking for some other ideas.
