**knocks co-worker on head**

I was supposed to have field work tomorrow.  As luck would have it, we're supposed to get the remnants of Ida combined with an already nasty rainstorm.  3-5 inches of rain inland, 10 inches and coastal flooding where I live.  I'm supposed to be working outside in the inland area.  Still heavy rains and high winds.

To me its a no brainer, you reschedule the field work.  I'm light as anything next week.  Why go out in the pouring rain, get soaked to the bone, get our equipment soaked (some of which is electrical) and have crappy notes as heavy rains like that make note-taking very difficult (even with the rite-in-rain stuff), and the ground will be slick because this rain will knock the leaves off the trees.

He wants to still go.  Are you effing kidding me?  If it HAS to happen that day, I'll do it...but I think its stupid as hell.  He says he's busy next week...one days worth of stuff (whoop-de-frickin-do)....and has nothing for the rest of the week (me neither).  I mention to him that I'm WIDE open next week and can bring someone besides him if theres a conflict in his schedule.  **crickets**

Wes, I appreciate your gusto, but take it from someone who's done field work in weather like that...reschedule.  I've been the person at your level of experience who wanted to go for it and just get the job done...and to this day I wish I'd rescheduled.  It wasn't worth the misery in the field and the close call I had with a major injury.  Please learn from my crap decision.

POSTPONE.

  • That's so annoying.

Tell him to go and that you'll be about an hour late. Then call after an hour and see if he's ready to pack it in. Or just say that you have experience with it and it's a bad idea and you won't go this week.

  • I shot our manager (also the office health & safety person) an IM saying that if he had any reservations about us being in the field tomorrow that he should speak to Wes.  He ended up telling him pretty much what I wrote: That the gusto is great, but he had reservations about it and we weren't to go.  Helps to have a manager thats done the field work in the past.  Woot for Dave!
