Is the economy stopping your baby plans?
There was an article on the home page of thenest, so now I'm wondering how many of us are putting getting pg on hold because of this recession?
For us, it has put our plans on hold. We wanted to start trying now, but with the hubs not working and not being able to sell our place, we put it on hold till next fall
Re: Is the economy stopping your baby plans?
Ankea, can you give me a range of what you pay for 1 in daycare now in the city? I'm pretty sure we'll still be in the city when we have #1 (since the housing market sucks!) and I'm wondering what daycare costs. I've heard from $250-$350 a week for daycare and have no idea of an in-home daycare location.
A lot of it depends on where you are in the city- downtown and some of the more "select" daycares (take that how you want- smaller ratios, location, organic food, Montessori, etc.), you can expect to be in the $400 and up range. There is sometimes a discount when the kid gets older (toddler and up) but not always. We are STILL on waitlists for places that were in the $300 range. We weren't comfortable doing a true in-home daycare without having a personal recommendation- so we didn't go that route.
We just got married in the begining of September, and as you can see by my ticker it didn't really stop us. Although, I thought that it would take us much longer (pregnant on our first "real" try).
I'm really concerned about the daycare costs more than anything. I'm hoping to work four days a week and find a nanny share.
As to age, I wouldn't worry about it too much, as I said we got a positive on the first try and I'm 36, hubs is 41.
Thanks for the reassurance regarding age, I guess I can be quite neurotic when I want to be. Hopefully within the next two years things will change and a baby will be in the works. Good luck and congrats!
