How to hail a cab . . . ?

Hey girls,

B and I are flying out to San Francisco this Friday morning.  I have heard several girls on this board recommend taking a taxi to the airport to save $$ on parking and for convenience, especially for those who live pretty close to the airport.

Well, I live super close to the airport and figured this would be the best way to get us and our luggage to and from OIA.  But I didn't know exactly how to go about doing this?  Do I just call a random cab company?  Any recs for reliable cab companies?  And how far in advance do I call??  That morning??  Or can I call today and make an appointment for them to show up at my place at a specific time?

TIA!

Re: How to hail a cab . . . ?

  • You can call them the night before if you want.  I think Mears takes reservations but I have no idea.  There is always "star taxi."  Not me ;D but an actual company.
  • You could probably just call that morning.  I'm pretty sure cab services are 24 hours, so you don't have to worry about it being too early.  I've used a company - don't remember the name, but their number is super easy to remember - 407-422-2222.  They were very reliable and prompt.
  • Is there any difference between the taxi companies?  Do they all charge the same?

TIA!  Sorry, I'm so taxi illiterate!!  Embarrassed  The only cabs I've ridden in were in NYC and they were all the same, they were regulated by the city and there was no "calling" for one because they were everywhere!

  • Just looked it up online, and Mears is also the same as Yellow Cab Taxi (the company I used).  For about a 5 mile distance, they charge a little over $12.00.  You can probably look up other services online to compare prices. HTH
  • Do not call Mears!!!!! They didn't pick us up after our wedding. LOL : ) If you do, just call them an hour before your pick up time and make sure they are coming. We called the day before and apparently that was not clear enough for them. : ) We ended up getting a free limo ride to the airport for our honeymoon though!
  • Mears SUCKS! Don't call them! You can call Destination MCO they are a local car company. Usually a cab doesn't take appointments - I would just call them the day of about 1.5 hours before your depart time.
  • Uh-ohhhhhh....I was going to recommend MearsEmbarrassed I used them for my last trip to the airport, booked a few days in advance, they were right on time and I had no problems. The fare was $20 from the Vista Lakes area, so it should be even less for you. (their site has a fare estimator BTW)

We're going OOT on Monday and I was going to use them again....now I'm a little worriedConfused

Whoever you choose, I'd book in advance. Have a great time!
