So if Weis is out, who will be the next coach at ND?
Rumors are Gruden and Kelly. And a side of Stoops.
Who the heck would WANT that job!? It's like being set up to fail!
Re: So if Weis is out, who will be the next coach at ND?
Someone with a big ego is who would want it. They would think they could turn it around.
Gruden is the big rumor, but I don't know. I know he has huge ties to ND, but he's starting to get into the announcing circuit and thats good money/reliable.
As a Buc fan, I don't want Chucky. Yes he got us a superbowl, but with Dungy's players. We went to hell after that.
There is also the rumor of Meyer, but he would have to have lost his mind to leave UF and go to ND. Plus, he already turned us down once (he made a verbal agreement then backed out and went to UF) so why would he come now?
My Bio
Urban said he was not leaving Florida at least until his kids were all in college. I don't really see him leaving even then. I will be very sad if he leaves, especially if he goes to ND.
Oh I don't think he'll leave either, but then again, I don't trust his word
But yeah, he won't leave. He'd be dumb to.
But why would it make you sad ESPECIALLY if he went to ND?
I won't put words in GatorHT's mouth, but for me, it would be because he specifically said that he would not leave UF for ND. (And I do trust his word.)
But yeah, he's not leaving for ND. Like you said, he'd be crazy to do so.
gotcha. That makes sense.
The only reason I don't trust his word is because he gave a verbal agreement to ND behind close doors (so we went ahead and fired Ty) and then he backed out.
I don't blame him for backing out once UF wanted him, but i'm just saying it makes me skeptical of his word is all.
Katie Talks About...
To be honest, I'd forgotten about that. Fair enough.
before OSU hired Tressel that was the big rumor in C-bus and I was ready to meet Chuckie's plane at the airport!!
Yeah, it is frustrating that he did that. But mainly my reason is a long-standing hatred of ND following an unfortunate Sugar Bowl match-up with the Gators years and years ago. : ( Plus, I have a few ND friends who love to talkshit about the BCS conferences. I do love me some Rudy though! : )
Haha well thats fair. I have a long standing hatred of UF because I grew up in FL so I was constantly surrounded by Gator obsession. So I can completely understand
Chucky did well with the Raiders, but being a HUGE Colts fan I'm a big Dungy fan too.
I'm thinking they may end up with someone like Brian Kelly. I don't see Meyer jumping ship. I just don't. And Saban won't either but I did get a good laugh out of that one!
I gotta be honest, the only fans on Earth that have higher expectations than Husker fans are Notre Dame fans. And that's not a compliment to either team!
I think you guys get some EXCELLENT recruits (a couple you got over Nebraska (I'M NOT BITTER!
like Tommy Zbikowski and Jonas Gray), but it's what you do with the talent once you get them there.
And honestly, recruiting rankings are bunk. Good coaching can really develop a 2 star into a 5 star by the end of their college careers.
A lot of the things you're saying I can TOTALLY relate to. We Husker fans have trouble with patience.
Of course we get some excellent recruits. Some are fabulous. But we don't get the breadth that many of the top schools get.
And I agree about developing talent, which is Charlie's weak point. But he really has never had to do it before as a pro coach. He does pretty well with QBs, but outside that? Not so much.
Meyer will probably end up retiring from ND... but he's not going there any time soon.
I actually have heard on some Gator boards that Charlie Strong might be a name they are going to throw around. I'd HATE HATE HATE to see the Mayor of Gainesville leave.... but would that be awesome? So many ex-assistant coaches from UF becoming head coaches? /beams with pride
I caught a interview just now on ESPN radio and their people are saying that ND may just toss everything including the kitchen sink at Meyer and see if it sticks...if not they think Kelly is the man
I did just happen on the interview so there could have been more or less to it..I don't want to spread rumor
Amen!
