Vent: I have no idea if I'm hosting Thanksgiving or not...
So, I was in the grocery store looking at Thanksgiving foods and wondering if I should buy any.
Last month, the ILs were threatening to come to our house for Thanksgiving. If everyone showed, I could have up to 15 people for dinner.
But I haven't heard anything else about it since. I have a feeling it'll be a last minute thing if they decide to come. Yay.
I decided not to buy anything. I don't really need or want a huge turkey if they don't show.
Who knows what will be available when I finally hear for sure if they're coming. I am fully prepared to serve them tacos.
Re: Vent: I have no idea if I'm hosting Thanksgiving or not...
You know you aren't HOSTING Tday. You just don't know if a bunch of really rude, inconsiderate asssholes are going to descend upon you without notice on that Thursday.
I'd be in my pajamas, drunk on champagne and listening to Alice's Restaurant if they showed up unannounced; and I'd let them figure out what to eat where.
Definitely have YH ask them what their plans are, and have him tell them that if they are going to plan on coming so last-minute, they need to help bring something for the meal. Salads, rolls, beverages, etc.
Also, if you don't want to buy a big turkey, seriously look at the turkey breast roasts. The meat tastes the same, IMO (although you don't get dark meat), and you could get 3-4 roasts and freeze what you don't use. That way if you DO have guests, you'd have enough. If you don't, you've got 3-4 roasts that you can make throughout the year.
This.
If you want to host, invite them and tell them you'll need a 'yay' or 'nay' by X date.
If you don't want to host, have your H make it abundantly clear and if they stop by, tell them you're busy and send em on their way.
WALLA.
Are you serious???
