Holiday Letters- creative ideas?

Yes, I am one of those cheesy people who do the yearly holiday letter inside my Christmas cards.  Each year I like to do something a bit different.  Last year our letter looked like the game of LIFE which was a huge hit.  Any ideas?  What have you done in the past?

Re: Holiday Letters- creative ideas?

  • I don't have any ideas, but yours last year was awesome.
  • I don't have creative ideas, I just wanted to say that I like the letters*.  What is the point of a card that says "merry xmas love the jonese"?  That is a total waste of a stamp IMO.

*as long as you keep it to 1 page and don't go on and on about the new house, car, boat and cabin you bought this year

  • The LIFE idea is incredibly cheesy, cute and really well done!  I LOVE IT!

I'll try to think of some ideas throughout today...but I wanted to say that I love the letter!

  • I love your letter from last year!  So creative!
  • When done w/ a sense of humor,k I love annual letters!  I have a friend who is just funny in how she writes hers- and I always look forward to it.

It's the others I get that I hate.  Just a long litany of everything they did, how perfect their life and kids are, etc.  Blah.

I realize I"m not giving you any ideas- I just wanted to say that I'm sure many people enjoy your letters!

  • Lots of pictures.  That's always my favorite part of the Christmas letters, and people tell me it's what they like about mine.  Maybe you could do "A Year in Pictures" or something.  If there's an event for which you don't have a picture, google for a stock photo or something.  That might be fun/ny.
  • Love LarkNow's idea.

Do you want something graphic (like the LIFE game) or would creative writing do? I'm always a fan of parodies, like "The Twelve Months of 2009" instead of the 12 days of Christmas.

  • I am up for anything.  I just want it to be fun and unique.  I love holiday letters - especially those that are not just a month by month brag of what they have done/accomplished.

  • My friend did the calendar thing one year.  She listed like two exciting things about each month.

And then when she had empty months or empty spaces, she just made up things.

The funniest part was that no one questioned the way-out-there things.
