So Connor has been teething for a couple of weeks now and I want to help him feel better. I have heard a lot of postive things Hylands about teething tablets, I have been told that they work better than Orajel and are homeopathic.
Does anyone here have any experience with them? I bought them a few days ago and of course I want to ask the opinion of my nestie mommies first before giving them to him.
TIA!
Re: Teething tablets??
I have always heard lots of good things about them, but never used them. They have a form of caffiene (a BIG no-no w/ Owen's heart) & milk ( a no-no w/ his milk allergy). I have always just done Tylenol (or Motrin when older) when he really seems to need it. Teething can last forever, so don't like to get into the habit of giving it all the time.
Just out of curiosty, what makes you think that he is teething? 3 months is possible, but would be on the very young side. At this age, most babies start drooling a lot more at this age, which is often confused as a teething symptom. It just happens now. Also, this is the age where they really discover their hands & mouth & start putting everything in their mouth. Even if his gums are swollen, that isn't a sure sign that he is actually teething. I never count it until I can actually feel or see something poking through.
Owen was considered actively teething at his 4 month appt. The pedi felt his mouth & said that he should have a tooth in a few weeks. Same thing happened at his 6 month visit & every time he went in for something else. Actively teething, should appear very soon. He still didn't get any teeth until 8 months old!
i used them for the boys and am using them on ocasion for tony...
i think they work great. and i rec'd them to a friend of ours whos kid was going through teething hell and they said theyre working for them.....
i like them.
Well, we noticed it first not the pedi but he did say that Connor is teething. The drool was a little deceiving at first b/c i did know that some kids just drool at this age so I so of wrote it off as that and that he was just an excessive drooler. It really became obvious when instead of wanting to suck on his soothies he started chomping on them. Then when I would put my pinky on the inside of the nipple and stick it in his mouth (when he was upset) I noticed that he was looking for the resistance of something....that being the finger. I could feel him baring down on it for relief of the pressure in his gums. When we do this he starts to soothe.
Then we asked the pedi without telling him all the details and he looked in his mouth and said that he is definitely teething.
This has been going for a couple of weeks and I, myself, thought that he was too young but in reading many mommy websites and some articles I found out that he is not way out of the ordinary. There are some babies that start teething as soon as 2 months!!
I still do not want to start him on solids until he is at least 6 months that is if thats what he wants and my milk is still enough to satisfy him. I really just didnt think we would be starting this early. Now I am just trying to help him feel better and I heard great things about the tablets.
I have also hear good things about the teething tablets, but have never used them on Brianna. I did ask our ped what her thoughts were on using them and she said not a good idea. The reason being that alot of natural herbs and ingredients are used in them and there really hasn't been much research conducted on those ingredients.. so you're not really sure what you're giving your baby. She did say that there was one natural herb that was dangerous to babies, but I can't remember what it is. And thats the reason why she said no on the teething tablets... with not knowing exactly what is in them and how safe or not safe they are for babies. As we all know each ped has different recommendations. Our ped recommend baby orajel whereas other doctors say no. so I would check with YOUR ped first before you do anything. GL!! = )
