sports movies

I love sports movies. It's probably the one genre that I could watch any movie.  No matter how bad they are, I love them and they usually make me emotional at some point.  So what are your favorites?

The Mighty Ducks trilogy is probably my all-time favorite.  Rudy and Varsity Blues are close behind.  Oh, and I forgot about Love and Basketball . . . there's just too man good ones out there : )

Re: sports movies

  • We Are Marshall, Remember the Titans, Field of Dreams, For The Love of the Game

  • I used to love the mighty ducks

Remember the Titans is one of my all time favorites in general, and I have a soft spot for The Rookie as well

Anyone else want to see The Blind Side?

  • I agree with you - I am definitely into sports movies. I love love love Remember the Titans.

And I can't wait for The Blind Side. That is such an amazing story!

  • Breaking Away will always be near the top of my list.  Not only is it a great coming of age story, the sport aspect is terrific.  Plus, it's always nice to  see my old alma mater--even if it is an old version of it.  Double plus, it's actually about an event that's still alive, kicking, and that I have had a small part in it's history!  Triple Plus, Dennis Quaid was hot, even back then!

Pride of the Yankees.  I've only seen my DH tear up twice in the time I've known him.  One of those times was while watching this movie.  It's definitely made an impact on our lives (see siggy).  Even though Gary Cooper couldn't play ball for crap, the story of Lou Gehrig really was inspirational and movie-worthy.

I also love Field of Dreams, The Rookie, and Hoosiers.

  • I can't wait for Blind Side too. DH bought the book and I want to read it.  Sounds like a great story.

I really like the remake of the Longest Yard. I thought it was pretty funny. And i like The Replacements too.  But I'm biased since my childhood crush was Keanu.

  • This is a silly one, but I like Cool Runnings.

Some more recent ones I like are Friday Night Lights, Facing the Giants, The Express, Fever Pitch, Glory Road, Miracle....

Can you tell I just looked at this wiki? Hahaha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_films

  • I loved Cool Runnngs!

oh and I will always love The Sandlot

  • I dig sports movies. I have to say my favorite is not a main movie but totally made me break out into sobs...Without Limits, the Prefontaine story. I think there were several about him, but this one is my favorite. I think it was only a made for tv movie, but it was fabulous.

    Miracle....

I forgot about Miracle--loved it too.  The company that I worked for at the time got a sneak preview of that movie because of our association with the US Olympic Hockey team.  It was very cool.

  • for you Miracle lover's you may have already seen this, if not it's soooo cute

my daughter rarely cries, but this movie makes her sob...she loves the story of Pre and there are times where she puts on her Nikes to run or go to practice and grins and calls them her Pre's

I really like Rember the Titans.

  • Aw Radio is really good too! I cry every time!
  • The Sandlot....hands down, favorite sports movie.

    You're killing me Smalls!

  • Miracle is my fave movie of all time.
  • Mystery Alaska, The Mighty Ducks, Slapshot, Major League, Rudy, and Ace Ventura, Pet Detective (Ok, not really a sports movie, but it's the only way to see the Fin's win the superbowl)
  • Major League, Field of Dreams, Rudy - those are probably my favorites.
  • I love Rudy.  When I was little though, I was obsessed with the Mighty Ducks.

oh, and Rocky, of course :)

I also just saw a great one called Sugar about a Dominican kid trying to make it in the big leagues.

  • Hoosiers, hands down.  I also love Rudy and Remember the Titans.  Does Bring It On count?  LOL.  Also, The Program was filmed at my school while I was there.  It was pretty cool at the time.  Too bad the movie's not that great... :-)
  • Hoosiers.  It's a classic!
