We are taking a trip to Portland this weekend to see if we would like it better than Eugene. We are also checking out Bend soon prior to us settling and buying a home we want to see all of our options. Eugene is beautiful so I cannot imagine how much better Portland or Bend can be...
Any recs for lunch and dinner on $80 budget?
Cities, and/or communities that are family friendly outside of Portland? Is Hilsboro (sp?) one?
Portland facts, ideas, or any suggestions are welcomed.
TIA!
Re: Visiting Portland
I love Beaverton, it's where I was raised, and it's great. All of the suburbs of Portland are nice, but everywhere has "pockets"of bad areas. Some places in Hillsboro are very nice, some I wouldn't walk into a grocery store by myself. The Tanasbourne/Orenco Station area of Hillsboro is very nice and family friendly, and clean and safe. You will probably get a good feel for safety and demographocs as you drive around. I *personally* prefer the West side to the East Side, BUT the inner East Side is nice, Sellwood,Eastmoreland, Milwaukie, etc. I prefer that over Gresham or Troutdale. Just cleaner and safer, in my opinion.
Restaurants, depends on what you like...? I love RockBottomBrewery on 2nd and Alder downtown, it's a very "Portland" feel to it.
Good luck!
