Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

Volunteering Update

A while ago I posted about volunteering and I stated I was interested in getting involved with the North County Humane Society & SPCA.  I finally went to their volunteer orientation last night and I was pretty impressed.  They seem to have a good group of people working there and there are a lot of opportunities for those who are interested in volunteering.

I'm going to try to get a position in marketing or development because I love being out in the community and interacting with people, but you can do anything from being a canine companion to landscaping the grounds.  They provide training for whatever billet you choose to take on and it's quite an extensive process to become a volunteer.  I'm in the process of filling out the application now, so hopefully I'll start working in the near future.  I'm really excited about getting involved in an organization outside of work and school.

Re: Volunteering Update

  • How cool!  I'm happy for you!
  • That's awesome! I just turned in an application to volunteer with a rescue in my area, I'm really excited. Big Smile

How is life with the kitten?

  • It's great to hear someone else is getting involved as well.  I'm glad to finally start getting out in my community more.

The kitten is great.  He makes life pretty interesting.  While I don't enjoy cleaning up the litter box and hiding everything he feels the urge to tear apart, he's quite entertaining.  His newest interest is a fake plant my husband and I positioned in the living room to cover some electrical cords.  He spent all day attacking it and somehow managed to get stuck inside it.

My husband leaves tomorrow night for Iraq so both the kitten and volunteering should help in dealing with his absence.  Sad
