I haven't been around here for a while but I'm curious if any body has some input on this. DH is currently interviewing for residency programs, and our top 2 right now in the valley are Scottsdale Health and Phoenix Baptist. With the way most of them set up their insurance you either have to use their hospitals for medical care or at the very least it's very beneficial to.
The biggest medical need we're going to run during his residency is (hopefully) maternity. I don't know anyone personally who has delivered at either one of these hospitals. Do you have any experience with these hospitals or know of good sites for reviews? I know I could go over to the bump but I figured I'd ask here first.
TIA
Re: Phoenix area hospitals
Hey! So I'm a nurse at Phoenix Children's Hospital, so I don't know much about those hospitals. BUT I do know a lady at work and I wanna say someone else (can't remember) who delivered their baby at Scottsdale Shea or Osborn and they had an AMAZING experience. I believe she used the words "baby bellagio." She said it was super nice! LoL sorry, not very much first-hand info, but I've heard good things about it in general... I know absolutely nothing about Phoenix Baptist.
While pregnant I toured Scottsdale Shea and it is definitely plush. In room mani/pedis, on site spa and beautiful rooms. I ended up delivering at Scottsdale Osborn with both of my kids because my dr prefers the staff there over Scottsdale Shea and I trust my dr over anything else. Scottsdale Shea pediatrics is where both my kids went for their week long jaundice stay and that was a great experience.
As for work for your DH's search for a residency program, I prefer the Banner Health network of hospitals. My husband works for Banner and it is a wonderful company. I've heard the new maternity wing at Banner Thunderbird is very nice too.
Phoenix Baptist is part of the Abrazo network of hospitals and I would advise to stay away! My friends who have worked there, friends who have been patients there, have had nothing but bad things to say.
Good luck on your search!
I will definitely vouch for that, it's amazing!
I'm a nurse at Mayo Clinic so of course I'm a bit biased . Depending on what kind of residency he is looking into he should check out Mayo, they have a really great program. If you use Mayo for your OB/GYN they deliver at Scottsdale Shea since we don't have L&D at our hospital. Everyone I work with who has gone there has had really good experiences.
I also would say stay away from Phoenix Baptist...I have never heard a single good thing about that hospital.
He's doing Family Med and unfortunately Mayo closed down their program last year so they're not taking any more residents. The only 4 in the valley are Scottsdale, Baptist, St Joes, and Good Sam. He doesn't interview with Good Sam for a few more weeks but since it's Banner that would open us up to their whole Banner network, which I'm more familiar with. I just hadn't talked to anyone who had L&D experience at the two I asked about.
Thanks ladies you've definitely given me lots to think about. Scottsdale is definitely #1 on our list, and I guess it should stay that way.
I work for Banner Health Corporate and I have to say it is a wonderful organization to work for and be part of!
Good Sam is an excellent facility, but there are many other Banner facilities in the valley that would be excellent as well.
I am also currently expecting and plan to deliver at Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale. Also, having BH Insurance, I feel there are a lot of options for coverage for both you and your husband & the maternity coverage is excellent!
Good luck!
PS - I haven't ever heard anything good about Phx Baptist...

I am now on my husband's BH insurance and looking for a new OB/GYN to prepare for babies! I am looking to deliver at Thunderbird too. Are you happy with your doc? My doc for the past 10 years is in Scottsdale and too far to travel for all the preggo appts. I have no idea how to find a new one!
butting in but I go to desert west ob/gyn and LOVE the office
Sorry it took me so long to get back on this...
I also go to Desert West OBGYN...They have an office right behind Thunderbird, and several across the valley. I love my Doc...Tracy Contant. She is actually praticing out of the Anthem office right now, which stinks a bit, but worth it...
