Good gift ideas...

I'm already trying to think of something really good for my SO for Christmas.  He's not a big "stuff" person, so he can be tricky.  I'd like to give him something original and meaningful ... creative is always good.  Anyone have any great creative leads or things you've done?

Re: Good gift ideas...

  • What are you looking to spend? Does he have a hobby or an interest in history or reading or something?

My H is a huge Yankees fan so I bought him a nice coffee table book celebrating the Yank's 75th (or maybe 100th, can't remember) birthday.

He's into MMA so I bought him Chuck Liddel's autobiography.

One year I bought him a St. Michael medal because he's a police officer and St. Michael is the patron saint of law enforcement officers.

One year I bought him a Raymond Weil watch and another year I bought him a real cashmere coat from Brooks Brothers.

Last year I bought him a new radio for the bathroom (he likes to listen to music while he showers and gets ready for work).

Without knowing what your SO likes or how much you want to spend, these might be out of your price range but it might give you some ideas.

  • Does he golf? Book him a round of golf at a nice course with a buddy. I'm not sure where you live so this may have to wait until after winter?
  • Tickets to a show he's been wanting to see, or even the movies.  For guys who don't like "stuff," experiences are the best gifts.  If you really want to get fancy, take him away for the weekend.  Not everyone can swing it, but my DH gave me a trip to Colorado last Christmas.  He had planned it sneakily, asking my schedule so he could plan which nights to "work late"--he was trying to figure the best days to leave!
  • It's a tradition that I give DH a liquor gift set as one of his Xmas gifts each year.
