Christmas card ideas

I need a creative idea for our Christmas card this year.  The past few years our picture has looked the same, just different clothes and different background.  We've been in front of our tree twice now, had the dog with us twice now and been alone once in front of some pretty bushes.  What do you do or have done?  We don't have kids so it's just us and the dog.  I thought about doing one with just DH and I in one picture and dog in the other (you know, the cards with 2 pics).

Any good ideas?

Re: Christmas card ideas

  • One year we used one of our engagement pics with our dog at the park, another year we've used just her in a Santa suit with milk and cookies in front of her and a 'naughty or nice' list with all of our family/friends dogs on it, one year she was an elf and last year we did a pic of DH and I in front of a Christmas tree in Sea World with a penguin and a separate picture of our dog from a holiday photo shoot.
  • How about a card without pictures? I just buy regular christmas cards and write notes inside. No pictures most years.

  • My aunt and uncle did a card one year of there kid pictures and put what they wanted for christmas.

Like Val was on a rocking horse and said that is what she wanted for christmas and Jim wanted a toy truck or something.  It was really cute and they didn't have to take any pictures that year.  Just an idea.

  • I had a friend who did himself and his roommates in cheesy Christmas sweaters and scarves holding a large book - "A Christmas Carol."  I still have the picture.  Loved that one.
  • I am making our cards this year. I bought some cute stamps from the craft store and some card stock. Easy and simple!

  • I think funny ones are the best! What about you guys dressed in ugly christmas sweaters wearing reindeer antlers or something? :)
  • You could get away from the photo-card for one year and try using regular cards.

I had the dog stamp them all and signed our names around them.

  • We got married 5 days before Christmas and we didnt do your typical tridition stuff (like put annonement in the paper) well this year we are taking anniversarry pictures (idea is: my husband in the foreground chessin with his thumbs up while im behind in the a frying pan about to hit him in the head (his idea)) and put it in the paper with a note that says thank you to friends and family who have helped us through our first year of marriage and then use it for a christmas cards.

I think this will be fun and something to remember!

  • I have been using photos on my cards for about  5 years now. We are never in any of the photos that we use. I always try to come up with something different.

Th e first one was a sepia picture of our house from the 1930s, supplied by the NYC website. I had it done through a card company which incorporated it into the card.

Another was of a snowy Christmas Eve the year before that I used behind a vellum overlay on a card.

Another was a picture of my Dept. 56 Snow Village layout. It was a close up of a park bench with mine and DH's name and the year.

Another was a picture of our vacation cottage in Maine witha snowman sticker on the front porch.

This year we are going with a picture of the beach in Maine with a Christmas message and 2009 written in the sand.
