I am in dire need of party ideas for a young adult group.
i need something to entertain 18-30yr olds... & most of us are married, and those of us that aren't are about to be. [ but there will be singles there... so nothing too couple-ish ]
I want it to be light hearted and fun... no presents... cause lets be honest times are tough... :]
anyone have any ideas on what we can do to keep these folks occupied?
please?
Re: i need help...please
I'm not sure how well everyone knows each other but.....
Have everyone submit a baby picture and post it on a board with numbers. Have people match up the numbers and pictures to people in the room.
Have a Santa Sack race (like potato sack race, but with big red Santa gift bags instead).
Christmas music musical chairs- cheesy, but could be fun
Cookie decorating
Christmas bingo
Christmas carol Pictionary
DH and I throw a lot of parties. Honestly, what makes a good party is good music, good food, good drinks and relaxed hosts. Also ambiance - the lighting should be right, the temperature comfortable, plenty of seating, food and drinks in a convienent area, etc.
The rest should take care of itself.

Do you all have similar interests? When we have people over, we usually have ski and snowboard videos on all the tv's because every one of us loves the snow. We also like to play board games-Pictionary, Apples to Apples, Cranium. That could be fun maybe? People would probably have to pair up on teams, but that's ok.
Good food + good music + good drinks = a good time to me!
When my friends and I get together over the holidays, we usually end up doing one of two things:
1. Christmas cookie decorating party: Everyone brings cookie ingredients and recipes, and we make everything together from scratch. Last year we went to my friend's house to do this, and she had a double oven, so that worked really well. Everybody splits the costs of the ingredients, and we all bring our own cookie tins to take home some cookies.
2. Board game night: Everybody brings the alcoholic beverage of their choice, and the host usually provides some yummy apps, and then we play Cranium, Pictionary, etc. It's my favorite kind of party!

You are getting some good advice from the PPs, but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring, too.
I like to make sure there are different "stations" around the house. Usually I'll set up a few appetizers in the front living room when people walk in. I'll have drinks set up in the dining room or kitchen. Back in the den, where the big TV is, I'll have some more snacks and usually a movie that goes with the theme of the party on. That way, people keep moving to get to the different areas and they mingle and talk. And those that don't feel like talking can sit down and watch the movie, though usually someone will come in and start talking to them anyway.
For a night time party keep the lights dimmer, unless you're playing board games and a good mix of music on in a central location (away from the TV, if you can help it).

oh... yea. i hadn't thought of putting a movie on. We are a pretty good mix of people.. most of the guys will do their normal guy thing and the girls will do theirs, but a movie in one part of the room and then music in the other. with snacks all around and inbetween....
this could work.
