Can we talk Thanksgiving?
I'd love to hear what y'all have planned for your Thanksgivings, including staying home or visiting others, what will be served, recipes, etc.

Re: Can we talk Thanksgiving?
We're going to be in our new house, with a new table and hopefully new chairs (still need to figure those out!).
In attendance will be C, her best friend N and his girlfriend N, my dad, our sister and brother in law, my dad and myself. We'll be working on the house right up to (and maybe past) Thanksgiving. We plan on unpacking kitchen stuff first so that N and I can cook while everyone else keeps working if necessary.
On the menu so far:
Turkey -- my first time cooking one myself
Stuffing (not stuffed in bird)
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Roasted acorn squash
Green beans
SIL said that she's bringing coconut pumpkin pies for dessert. If she doesn't I'll most likely buy a regular one and make whipped cream.
Question: I need to order the turkey. How many pounds per person do you all go with?
We stay home. When we first got together, we tried to do the 'your family for thanksgiving and mine at Christmas' and swap every year. Yea, that lasted 2 years. It was too hectic (both parents live 600+ miles away) and it was too costly to fly that much in 1 month. Plus, we felt like they were pressured visits and not really enjoyable. Now we plan visits to our families when we can relax and enjoy.
So...we started a new tradition a couple of years ago (when the boys were about 18m) where we go down to the Smithsonian Museums on Thanksgiving morning and roam around there for a bit. Then we come home and eat a light lunch. L will roast a small turkey breast and then make cranberry chutney, sweet potato fries, and carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. I'll probably make some Stove Top because I like it. Then we'll hang out at home in our pjs, watch a kid movie, and relax. Then I have to go work the day after. Boo.
We always spend the holidays at my Aunt's house. She lives locally so no real travel for us. We will have the girls this year so that should make it a lot of fun. I have adorable outfits all ready them :-)
We have the usual holiday meal but now I do all of the baking. This year my aunt asked me to do all of the veggies too so I will be cooking a lot next week.
I have planned to do mini pies; pumpkin, pecan, chocolate cream, apple, blueberry sour cream and maybe coconut cream. I will try my hand at apple cider donut holes and bite sized truffle brownies.
I haven't finalized the veggies yet but I am planning to roast mini pumpkins and fill them with a wild rice stuffing. I will probably do a roasted acorn squash/butternut squash kind of thing too.
Oh, I have to make cornbread too. Crap. I should start cooking now, LOL!
we always host and do the typical thanksgiving fare: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, bread of some sort, cranberry relish, spinach/broc casserole, corn, carrots, various desserts ect.
I always go with 1.5lb of turkey per person - enough to fill my guests and send them home with leftovers
Blogs: Our Growing Family - CT Working Moms

We have our chosen family over every year. All the bio families live too far away. Two couples we're close to and their kids, another good friend and maybe his new boyfriend, and a couple who live close to us that will celebrate with us for the first time this year. About 10 of us I think.
I'm cooking the turkey (with spare ribs on top per Holly's family tradition), with stuffing, and cranberry-something. One couple is bringing pies, mashed and sweet potatoes. The other couple is hopefully bringing their 3 week old baby, which is enough yumminess in and of itself! And the others will probably bring or contribute something as well. There will be too much food, and at least 1/2 a pie or cake per person. And a lot of wine, and a very good chance at least some of us will be still up talking at 3am.
We go to Carols aunts house. Usually Thanksgiving is at her moms place, but this year she is going to Georgia to spend it with her two kids there. It's a pretty traditional meal for us. I am working both the night before and the night of Thanksgiving so I am really happy I don't want to cook. However I am wondering how to wrangle an invitation to Dutchesses place for dessert. All that babking sounds wonderful!

My parents will be joining us, and possibly my brother as well depending on how getting away during midterms works out for him.
We're serving (the pretty traditional):
- turkey
- mashed potatoes and gravy
- stuffing
- corn (and maybe green beans with almonds as well)
- crescent rolls
- cranberry sauce
- pumpkin pie and monkey bread (my mom is bringing)
I can't wait!!!
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD
