big cedar lodge, near branson

this place looks great - pretty accomodations, jacuzzi suites, nature, horse drawn carriage, golf, mini golf, fishing, trails, restaurants, caverns tours nearby... etc. I am thinking of taking the 8 hour drive from Chicago for a nice getaway. Anyone been here? Wondering what time of year we should go? Thinking Aug or Sept. can you recommend a certain room/lodge/cabin to stay in? DH can't walk on rough terrain or very far. We'd like a jacuzzi in the room, other than that no biggie. what other activities/restaurants nearby do you recommend? how many days do you think we should stay?

  • I would definitely suggest making a trip to Lamberts Cafe in Ozark, MO north of Branson. www.throwedrolls.com Make sure you are good and hungry when you go!

  • I've heard that this is a nice place to stay, although i've never been there myself.  If you're going to make the drive, wait until maybe october, when the leaves are changing colors, it's a beautiful drive down there with all the beautiful trees.

Also, August would still be tourist season down in the ozarks so you want to wait until all the tourists go away and it's quieted down :)

What a great idea for a trip, have fun planning it!!!

  • Big Cedar is really nice.  I've never stayed there but ate at their restaurant (Devils Pool).  It is beautiful in the winter, they put up a lot of lights.  But I agree...  I would go in the fall when the leaves are changing color.
  • Never been to BCL, but have only heard positive things about them. Lamberts for dinner is a must, but prepare to wait an hour or so. On the weekend is when tourist go, locals know better and go during the week, when the wait is not as bad. Branson Landing has a cool water music show, and of course shopping. Also Branson show boat is pretty cool. As far as when to go, my favorite time of year is Fall, so that gets my vote.

    Also check out tripadvisor.com... http://tinyurl.com/5qkqy4

  • Our wait at Lamberts was only 45 minutes... I would suggest going early, though.
