Differences in Macs

Can someone please explain the difference between the macbook and macbook pro?  I am trying to justify the price difference in buying one vs. the other but can't really tell outwardly what the big differences is other then software?

Re: Differences in Macs

  • In the current generation of MacBooks and MacBook Pros, there is no difference in software, only hardware.  The main difference is that MacBooks are made with a plastic shell, while MacBook Pros are made with metal shells, can have larger screens, and typically have better internal hardware.

In short, the price difference comes from: better case, better screens, better internals (processor, RAM, HD, etc.).  Which of those specifically is involved depends on what configuration you get.

If you're not going to be doing very much processor-intensive work on your computer, and the 13" screen size is adequate for you, then a MacBook would be fine.

All of that.  I opted for the MacBook and am in love with it.  When DH needs a new laptop we'll get him a MacBook Pro b/c he does a lot more with his.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Ditto PP.  The main difference is the hardware, not the software, with the current models.

I've had 3 Mac laptops; my first 2 had plastic casing and my newest has a metal casing.  I absolutely love how my new computer looks, and the screen with the black trim looks amazing.  I will not go back to the plastic kind (yeah, I'm vain like that).  I also like that the metal case feels more solid in my hands and also slightly thinner and lighter (given that you choose 13", instead of 15" or 17").  But I do spend a lot of time with my laptop since I do a lot of work on my laptop in addition to the desktop at work, so I care a lot about how my computer feels.
