Re: Cola Basted Ham?

  • I've heard of it before and I want to say that it's a fairly old way of doing a ham.  However, it's not really my thing due to all of the processed foods in it, so I've never eaten or prepared it.  I would imagine that it would be pretty sweet.
  • Yeah I am not a huge ham fan but we are having Thanksgiving at our house so I thought I can prepare the ham instead of picking one up at Honey Baked:)
  • You're right not to buy a ham - they're *insanely* expensive from Honey Baked/Heavenly.  They're so easy to make!  If you go in my bio, you'll find the bourbon-brown sugar recipe I used for my fall dinner party.

Cola hams are old school like pp said and very sweet.  My crowd is always divided between salty and sweet ham lovers, so the brown sugar-bourbon recipe is a good compromise for my group.

  • Nigella does this with *cherry* Coke. Mmmm.
  • My grandma used to do this, but it never seemed too sweet.  I'm not sure about the recipe, but I think she just poured 1 can over the top.

  • We usually buy a Ham and then slow cook it with Sierra Mist.  This might be an interesting twist to the recipe.

  • I've never done it with ham, but we have done it with pork tenderloin and it was good. There may some similarities since they are both pork products.

  • I've never had it with cola, but I've had it with Sprite and it was pretty tasty.

Just pick up a ham at the store and use the packet they give you.  It's not Honeybaked, but at $1.49/lb it's still darn tasty.
