How do you decide who to send Christmas cards to?

I'm curious.  How many people do you send Christmas cards to?  Do you have a set limit of who you send to?  Just the people that send to you or more?  I'm trying to make my list for who we're going to send cards to and it's getting longer and longer!

Re: How do you decide who to send Christmas cards to?

  • We do aunts, uncles, and cousins we're close to, or at least we are this year b/c its a photo card from our wedding. In the past, I usually only send cards to the family I won't be seeing (i.e. his family if we're spending the holidays with mine)

I hand out cards and a piece of candy to coworkers (we don't do gifts)

Otherwise, I send to the handful of friends we have from college / high school or who live out of state. I don't do cards for local friends, unless we're really close or I know they get excited about real mail.

  • i have a list of ppl i send cards to that i keep from year to year. all my aunts, uncles, cousins, parents grandparents and dh's get cards. then i also send them to my close friends.

i also have a group of ppl i'm semi-close to (including some neighbors) that get cards. if people in that group stop sending me cards i quit sending them cards. for the ppl that i'm semi-close w/that don't send me cards i send them hallmark ecards for free.

this year i'm sending 36, but in years past i send 50.

  • I actually send to a very few people.  Most of my Christmas cards go to coworkers so I don't have to mail them. =]
  • I send out about 20 cards to close friends and family.  My rule is if you don't send me a card the next year you don't get one.

  • We don't do cards for christmas. We don't really do cards period. We see it as a waste of money and paper. Not that our family and friends don't mean a lot to us. We just make it more a priority to either call or see those people during the special times.
  • Everyone we invited to our wedding. If we keep getting cards from them, they stay on the list. And we add any new friends.

  • I usually send to family (both sides aunts, uncles, cousins) and close friends that we are still in contact with otherwise it just gets complicated and it becomes a very big list otherwise. HOpefully this helps.

  • the 1st year we were married, we sent to everyone that came to the wedding.  Since then, we've cut back & send just to family & those that we rec'd cards from the previous year.
  • I've kept our list from our wedding which was basically just close family and friends.  I use this list now for our Christmas cards.

I do still send cards to those that do not send us a card.  I know a lot of our family would like to do cards, but just don't find the time to do them - however they still enjoy receiving one knowing that they were thought of.

  • I keep a list of who sent me cards from the prior year.  Sometimes I'll still send a few people cards who didn't send me one, but after multiple years of not getting one, I remove them from the list.  If I can send a card, so can they!
  • We send to our immediate family, aunts/uncles, cousins, and close friends. This year our list is about 120.
  • It's mostly family, with friends sprinkled in.  I've been trying to pare down each year, but we still end up with around 90 on our list every year.  Since I moonlight as a graphic designer, I generally send a mass Christmas e-mail greeting to those who I have email addresses for that I haven't sent a snailmail card to.
