Christmas Presents

We are pretty tight on cash this year, much like every other year.  The past few years we've had our son make presents for our family, mainly ornaments in some form.  This year, I'm looking for either a different craft or ideas for at least our immediate family (parents, brother, sister and grandmothers)...Any ideas?

Re: Christmas Presents

  • You can do cookies in a jar or brownies in a jar.  There are recipes  online and you just place them in mason jars.

  • Here are some of the things I'm doing/have done.....hopefully they will help!

I'm making vintage aprons and hand towels from some material  I got at an antique store for $10. I made wreaths (super cheap), wooden wine trays with pictures on them, slideshow of family photos, bath salts, tie blankets, etc.

A super cheap thing that I've done is gone to Hobby Lobby and get their ceramic ornaments that are plain. With their sales...they're usually 50% off...so the .99 cent ornaments are great buys! Then I use Modge Podge (about $6) and put a photo on the ornament, go over it w/ the MP and it looks awesome. Hope these ideas help!

  • I always do baked goods, and this year I am adding a small jar of Paula Deen's house seasoning from her resaurant in Savannah called The Lady & Sons.
  • We have DS make an ornament every eyar too.  They are always a big hit.

This year we are getting some gifts from Shutterfly.  By combining coupon codes, it works out pretty cheap.  For example some people are getting notepads with DS's pic in the corner, and the top says "Grandma Ann's To-do list" or something like that.  They are 9.99 regular, on sale for 7.99, coupon code for 10% off and free shipping if you spend more than 30$.

  • I like to do crafty things for my girls to give to my sister and BIL, as godparent gifts.  In the past I've done cookie mix in a decorated jar, an A to Z scrapbook of their kids, framed photographs, handmade ornaments, and a movie basket (a cute popcorn bowl along with popcorn and other favorite movie snacks so that they could have a "movie night in" as a family or as a couple after the kids were in bed).

This year I'm thinking either a snack basket based around some gourmet jam I picked up at a recent cooking show, or some pottery that the girls paint.

  • you could try budget101.com for some nice easy homemade ideas.
  • Every year I make tons of Christmas cookies and either put them in cute tins or mason jars with a nice bow.  They seem to be a big hit!
