Storm2

I have the 1st gen Storm and was debating on getting the Storm 2. Has anyone played with it yet? What do you think?

TIA

Re: Storm2

  • DH has the storm 1 also and I can't stand it.  The clicking thing drives me nuts, so when the storm 2 came out I went to the store thinking I would get it.  It still clicks, but isn't as bad.  Its like a little less of a click, its also much more responsive than the old one.  Dh thought about upgrading, but with the new update he likes his phone much more.  Personally I decided to get the droid eris and I just wanted a true touch screen, not the click screen and I don't like the layout of blackberries, but I guess its your preference!
  • Thanks! I can understand about the "clicking."

But I sure do love all the new upgrades.

  • I don't have the Storm 2, but I do know they added more "touchpoints" to the screen, so it's more responsive than the original.
  • Last week I went to the Droid from using a curve and as of yesterday I took it back(hated it!!!) and got the storm 2, and I really really like it!  I think the clicking is quieter than with the original storm and so far it is very responsive and easy to use.  If given the choice I would buy it again!

If you don't mind me asking, what did you hate about the Droid?

  • It seemed to "get confused" easy and the screen would flash and the speakers would make strange noises so I would have remove the battery and restart it a couple times a day.  It also was larger than the blackberry curve which I had been using before I got the droid, and much heavier, I couldn't have the protective snap cover on and put it in my pocket comfortably.  Lastly I noticed that no one could understand what I was saying when I called them, there was a lot of what?? huh?? it turns out that my voice was muffled, the Verizon rep first blamed it on my protective cover, but she took it off and tried the phone again and she then realized it was a problem with the phone.  I really think they are onto something, but they have a lot of bugs to work out, if anyone is thinking of getting one, I would wait until they come out with a 2nd generation.   Oh yeah, if you have any use of the ipod touch apps you will be very unimpressed with the apps for droid, they are "cheap" looking and not designed well at all.

Sounds like you had a bad experience.  A friend of mine with Verizon got a Droid and absolutely loves it.

As for the iPod apps compared to Android apps, I respectfully disagree.  There are crap iPod apps just like there are great ones, much the same as there are crap Android apps and great Android apps.  It's a fairly new OS, so obviously there aren't going to be as many well-polished apps, but great ones definitely exist.

I know, because we use a lot of them regularly.

  • Like I said I really do thing they have a good thing going with the droid, I like they idea of it and the touch screen part of it worked very well, but it is going to take time to work out the bugs, I got a crappy one, and I since my experience was bad, and I had an option to switch phones, I went back to blackberry where I was comfortable.  I use my touch all the time and many different apps, I know there are crappy ones out there, just from my experience the droid apps didn't seem to be as graphically well put together, but I also didn't get any of the paid apps, and maybe that is where the better ones are.
