Today is the 11th anniversary of my grandpa's death. I talked to my grandma yesterday evening and she told me that she had gone to the cemetry earlier in the day because she knew she would be too sad to go on Friday. I would have loved to go visit with her today, but since I live too far away, I decided to send her flowers. I googled florists in Northern KY and randomly picked one. When I called I told the lady I wanted to send flowers to my grandma today and gave her my grandma's name. She told me that she knew my grandma because she used to work with my grandpa. What a small world!! I told her that I was sending my grandma flowers because it's the anniversary of his death. She started telling me her wonderful memories of my grandpa and what she admired most about him. I was in tears on the phone listening to her and then she listened to me share some of my favorite memories. She helped me pick some beautiful, cheerful flowers that I know my grandma is going to love. Seriously, what are the odds of this happening? It totally made my day!!
Re: What a small world
The world does work in mysterious ways, and I love that. My thoughts are w/ you and your gma today. It's nice to recall the good memories...and to hear them from others as well. Have a good day
How neat! And how thoughtful of you to send your grandma the flowers! She will love them!
Awww - that's a really nice story!
Hey - I'm from northern KY too (small world - teehee)
Thanks, ladies!! She should be getting the flowers sometime this afternoon.
Melissa - what part of NKY are you from? I actually grew up in Dayton, OH, but all of my extended family lives in NKY. I lived in Ft. Thomas after college before I moved to Florida. I loved living there, but I don't miss the snow. I do miss Skyline, LaRosas, and Graeters, though.
Aw - I should have said northwest KY. I grew up in Louisville My family still lives there, E-Town, Frankfort, Shelbyville, etc.
You're right - it's beautiful... but I can't handle the winters.
What a great story! I'm sure the florists words were great to hear....especially on the anniversary of his death. I bet your grandma is going to love this story too!
PS. My husand is from IN (Lawrenceburg) and I LOVE going to Skyline when we visit his family! Sometimes we buy the seasoning packets (although after I type that I am thinking we may have picked up a ton of those packets in IN last time we were there...not sure if you can get those in FL?) and make it at home! It's not the same, but it works when you've got a craving!

I am so excited that I have met two new friends here that like Skyline!!! Everyone down here that I try to introduce Skyline to doesn't like it....fine by me b/c it's more for me Erin, my friends and family are the same way - any time they come to visit me they bring me cans of Skyline. ebi, I don't think you can buy the spice packets down here. They do have frozen Skyline at Publix, though. We're going to have to have a skyline gtg....I love making Skyline dip for parties!!
I spoke to my grandma last night and she loved the flowers. I sent her white and yellow Gerber daisies. Daises to me are so cheerful and yellow was my grandpa's favorite color. Little did I know that my grandma carried white daises in her wedding (she told me that last night), so the flowers were perfect all around! I told her the story about the lady at the florist and she's going to go down to the florist so she can meet the lady and talk to her about my grandpa. She told me the flowers made her day, which I'm so thankful for - I love the feeling of knowing you brought a smile to someone's face!
