my parents want to buy hubby and I a big screen tv for christmas... budget is $1000, i want like a 52 inch or 56 inch (which is more in the $1500 range from what ive seen...) anyway, my question is what is better, plasma or lcd? I've only ever had LCD and i've liked them... but i dont know what the differences are and my mom found a 50 inch plasma for about 800 so we're considering that...
what to you have? do you like it? is there really any big differences?
and i thought i loved you then

Re: Plasma vs. LCD?
Check out this deal.
Remember it will look a lot bigger in your room than in the store.

Ditto this. It's amazing how much bigger they are when you get them home.
Also, make sure you've got enough space to be far enough back from a 52" to get the proper viewing distance.
It's not like it's crap if you watch is closer, but it's better if you're at the right distance.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
We have a 55" plasma and it's huge! If I had known I probably would have gone with a smaller one. We bought it 3 years ago for $2500 and a few months ago had to have a major repair which was outside of the warranty and cost us $700. It is a Hitachi. If I had the money I'd actually go for an LED. They're super slim and the colors are amazing. But they're more spendy right now. LCDs have improved over the past few years but I still think their colors are not as good as plasma. But the tv's are much lighter. We moved after we bought the tv and it was a nightmare. That beast weighs more than 100 lbs.
Do you have a Costco membership? They always have really good deals.
