Tampa Relocation??

Hi Ladies!

It's been awhile since I've posted on this board and hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! We initially were planning on relocating to Orlando, however after talking to my manager about it, I would need to be relatively close to one of our offices. Apparently the Orlando office closed, however there are several offices in Tampa.

I'ive gotten some great advice about Orlando, but now Im a bit unsure about Tampa. If I should be posting this on the West Coast FL board, please let me know.... but I wanted to check in since there are so many helpful women here that helped me before...

What are the pros/cons about Tampa compared to Orlando in terms of:
- cost of living
- housing market
- hurricanes

TIA

Re: Tampa Relocation??

  • You will definitely get more information on the West Coast FL board, but I'll give you a little bit here.  I grew up in St. Pete/Tampa and I miss it and would love to be back over there!  It honestly isn't too much different than over here.  The cost of living and housing market are probably the same in Hillsborough County (Tampa) as it is here.  It will be a little higher in Pinellas County (St. Pete).

The hurricane risk is about the same, but Orlando probably doesn't get hit quite as hard because we are more inland than Tampa.

Orlando is definitely a "younger" city, but I think Tampa is more laid back.

    You'll love it there!

  • I personally do not live in Tampa, but my mom does. All I can really add is something about the housing market. If you plan on being in Tampa for a while, I think this would be a good time to buy there. It is definitely a buyer's market, but my mom was telling me today that they are projecting to still be having problems up until 2010. I guess my point is, if you are going to have to sell again soon, be aware of the issues they are having. If not, it would be a great time to buy. There are a lot of homes being sold below what they are worth right now.
