What's your splurge...

Wednesday my DH is going to Portland for a few days.  It will be the longest he's been away since we've been married, and my first full night alone.  I'm thinking of cooking a nice piece of fish (DH hates it), getting some gelato, playing with photoshop, and hopefully being able to eventually fall asleep.

When your DH is gone do you splurge or treat yourself to something special?

Re: What's your splurge...

  • (This is all pre-baby)

I would either get take out from one of my favorite restaurants that Ray never wants to go to (either Outback or Macayo's), and veg out watching Sense & Sensibility (my favorite movie) or true crime shows that he hates, or catching up on Days of Our Lives (which he also hates).

If he was gone over a weekend, or for awhile, I would usually drive up to Phoenix and stay with my mom and hang out with my friends.

Two years ago, he went to San Jose for business and was gone for like 5 weeks - during the summer, when I was on summer break.  I was bored out of my mind!!!!!

The couple of day trips are kind of nice though.  Just some me time where I can splurge and veg and do things I like.

Now that we have a baby, it's different though.  I enjoy it a lot less when he's gone, even if it's just for a few days.

  • This is my second night alone, DH is on a cruise right now and wont be back till Firday, but I havent done anything yet. I did skip making dinner tonight but that's it. I will have dinner with my in-laws tomorrow but probably wont do anything crazy. I should pack but i dont think that will happen. But I am getting bored all alone and I still have 4 more days left. He's been gone since Saturday night.

  • I either order Papa Johns Pizza, or I will make stuffed Peppers. Not that he doesnt like Papa Johns, but I can get whatever kind I WANT and not have to be a grown up and make it something we'll both eat.. haha... And he HATES stuffed peppers (green peppers of any kind), even the smell of them so I like to do that when he is gone. I'll usually get a pint of Ben & Jerrys and then watch my shows (after the boys are in bed). I stay up late chatting online with friends and then am super tired in the AM, haha!

  • When DH leaves, I make a dinner I know he hates or I go to the store and buy junk. I would never eat mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers for dinner unless he wasn't home. When I wasn't pregnant, I'd open a bottle of wine, watch TV or rent movies, and be lazy. The best part of DH being gone is getting the bed to myself at night, and having my dogs curled up around me.
  • If DH went out of town I would snack for dinner and have a brownie for dessert (he's not into sweets). I would give myself a mani, pedi, and a facial. Then I would open a bottle of wine and watch Sex and the City.
  • I've been known to have popcorn for dinner when he's out of town. I also do the mani and pedi thing and watch chick flicks. Sometimes i'll have friends over and we'll make cosmos as well.

a few times i've been talked into going out and dancing with the girls but that dosn't happen all that often.

  • I mostly sleep right smack in the middle of the bed and watch TLC type programming as much as I want :)

Funny thing is I have a hard time sleeping in the middle of the bed, I always gravitate towards a side, even before I was married and slept by myself.
