Re: post idea for christening gift

  • I'm not particularly religious, so I sometimes feel odd when I'm expected to give a gift for a religious occasion. Over time, my go-to gift for christenings (and brises, too, for that matter) is a Noah's Ark playset. You can find lots of different types to suit your budget and the style of the parents, from handcarved $400 heirlooms to $25 Playmobil/Little People sets. It's cute, the baby can play with it, and best of all it can be interpreted as a "religious" gift or not.
  • I got this for my nephew recently...I know you said no silver keepsake type items, but I like that it is a bank. His name is engraved on it, and, along the lines off pp's thoughts, Noah's Ark works great with a christening.

I also like pp's suggestion of the playset.

  • How about a classic children's book from Easton Press?
  • Things we got- savings bonds and a nice kids prayer book.

  • We give savings bonds or add to the child's college fund.  For the college fund, the company supplies a very nice card that tells the parents that we have made a contribution.  It also has a space for us to write a note in.
