Having an ugly sweater party..

need some ideas for entertainment during the party.  Have you ever played any games (is that lame)?  This is a group of late 20's early 30's.  There will be alcohol and good music but I feel like there should be more.  I am also open to any appetizer ideas.  I have plenty of desserts! Thanks for any ideas!!

Re: Having an ugly sweater party..

  • How about setting up a camera with some props?  The target dollar section has some reindeer antlers and kid-size scarves.

     Sounds like a fun party!

  • My sis introduced to me to a new game that requires nothing and has been a huge hit at parties... Here's what you do:

    1.  Split into two teams... depending on the numbers, doing a battle of the sexes kind of thing can be fun.  Or just pick out of a bowl 1's or 2's.

    2.  Every person writes down the name of 3-5 people on separate little pieces of paper.  (Just take a sheet and tear it up.)  The more names in the pot you have, the more difficult the game.  They have to be famous people OR characters.  So for example, you could do President Obama or Fred Flinstone.  It should be people that most of the room are familiar with.  But there are always bound to be some actors, characters, athletes, etc. that people don't know.

    3.  Place all these sheets of paper folded once in a bowl.  One team starts.  They pick a person on their team to describe the rest of the team guesses.  The descriptor gets 1 minute to go through as many of the sheets in the bowl that he/she can.  They can say any words, just not the name.  So think Taboo with no buzz words.  Once their minute is up, the next team goes and teams continue to pass it back and forth, making sure the person talking/describing is different every time.  You keep track of how many little papers you get in each round and you keep going until the bowl is empty.  That's round 1.

    4.  To start round 2, put all the papers back in the bowl.  In round 2, each descriptor still gets a minute... but they only get two words to describe the name.  However, the names are the same.  So simply saying "professional baseball" may be enough because maybe there is only 1 or 2 baseball players in the bowl.  You only get two words though.  Pass it back and forth between people/teams just like in round 1 and tally up how many people each team guesses correctly.

    5.   Round 3:  Charades!  Now you have to act out those names.  This is HILARIOUS!!!  Again, names are the same so memory helps.  Pass the bowl back and forth and each actor still gets 1 minute.

At the end, the team with the most points wins.  We've had a lot of fun playing this game and my friends are mid - late 20's or early 30's.  Alcohol helps make it more fun too! :)

  • I went to an ugly sweater party last year. The couple who hosted was big into "flippy cup" and "beer pong" so we did a lot of that. When we host parties, we play Scattegories or Scene It. You could create your own Scattegories or Scene It game with using questions from Christmas movies, etc. . .

  • I've played the game above too except that we did any Nouns.  That works as well.
  • We're having an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party and we're going to play Spoons but with Candy Canes, and we'll have a Gingerbread Man decorating station.

We'll also be playing The Holiday Sausage Game:

Divide everyone in the room into two teams.

A player from team 1 may ask any question to any player on team 2...However, the player from team 2 must answer that question with "Holiday Sausages"...no matter what the question.

If player 2 is able to answer "Holiday Sausages" without laughing, team 2 gets a point (or player from team 1 takes a drink).
