newly engaged :)

Good morning everyone! I'm new to the website and to all the wedding planning! (although I'm basically done with planning!) I have to admit, I'm super stressed and really overwhelmed...My fiance and I are in the market to buy ourselves a new home, we just want to have something to call our own and at the same time, we are planning our wedding, and when I say we, I mean me! ha :) also, we are trying to keep up with both our 50+ hour a week jobs and stay sane! How do you all do it??

Re: newly engaged :)

  • First of all, welcome! And second of all, OMG!  You have your plate full!  I was able to plan my wedding because I only work 27 hrs./week so it wasn't that hard for me, plus I would go online and make phone calls @ work, so that helped too.  DH & I got married October 2nd.  Since then, we are looking for a place to live, we aren't ready to buy quite yet cause we are waiting to get some things squared away and an excellent opportunity may be presenting itself in the next two years.  So, in the meantime, we need to move out of our rented condo (our landlord is getting married in December and wants to move back in to his condo) and looking for a long term rent. And between all that we are TTC right now.  So, once we move and get settled in we will just be doing our thing-working, TTC, socializing, etc.  When is your wedding date?  Where are you looking to purchase a home?
  • First of all, welcome and congrats on your upcoming wedding.  Second, I can definitely sympathize with you about the planning and buying a house thing.  DH and I got engaged July 2008, bought a house September 2008, and got married May 16, 2009.  He was working 40 hours and going to school part time.  I was working 24 hours, finishing nursing school full time (with clinicals which is a job in itself), and planning the wedding while fixing up the house.  We got married 6 days after my graduation.  Definitely, take some time to yourselves and enjoy being engaged.  Don't let the stress get to you.  Just take it one day at a time, as corny as it sounds.  Also, check out the CT Knot board.  The ladies there are very helpful.  GL!

  • Congrats on the engagement and GL with the house search!  I can totally relate to having a full plate when planning a wedding, too.  I was in grad school, worked full-time, and we were building our house during the wedding planning period.  I look back now and think how insane I was, but it was all VERY much worth it in the end.  I married the love of my life, our house is amazing, and I got my degree last May!  Just take deep breaths and check off one thing at a time from your to-do list and it'll get done and don't be afraid to ask for planning help from your bridesmaids and your mom if you need it.  Definitely check out the Knot, too.

  • Our wedding date is October 1st, 2010. We are getting married out the Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown. We are looking to buy a house in Southington; where my fiance grew up and its his dream to have his future sons play football on the same field he did! hes so cute :) We would be in a condo by now but I have a BIG dog who doesn't fit the under 25 lbs. category :( Good luck TTC, I work for a daycare so I hear how hard/easy it can be for our parents!
  • Congrats!

No advice for how to get everything done, it all just sort of does. :)

  • GL on everything!! DH and I tried to buy a house before our wedding too, but we weren't successful. It ended up over stressing us and we found that we weren't able to focus on our relationship and the wedding while spending all of our free time house searching. So my advice is that if it seems like it's becoming too much to handle, put a brief pause on the house search. A couple months after the wedding we began searching again, once all of the craziness was over!

I grew up in Southington too. The good thing is that there is a wide range of house prices! And it's a great place to grow up (as I'm sure your FI knows!).. and our football team is definitely the best in the state!!!
