I am still recovering from the AWFUL night I had.
My mom's 5 lb yorkie, Elmo, who is the spoiled, adored baby of the family, went into toxic shock last night and started convulsing and shaking out of nowhere. My mom panicked, of course, and we all rushed him to the emergency vet, who concluded that he must have either eaten some mushrooms growing in the backyard and had toxicosis or ingested some kind of medication that had fallen on the floor. This dog is a goat, he will eat anything. He eats the tables, shoes, paper, ANYTHING, so this was not surprising. When we got him to the vet, they flushed his system with IV fluids, gave him active charcoal to prevent absorption, and thankfully, little by little he started getting better and stopped shaking so much.
He was so scared and it was awful to see him like that. My heart was in my throat all night, but thank God, this morning he is stable and will hopefully be able to come home today. I am so thankful and relieved, but will feel better when he is back home with my mom.
Please keep my little guy in your T&P.
And God forbid you EVER have an emergency like this, the folks at Knowles Animal Clinic on SW 72nd and 92 Ave are amazing. They are Chewy and Elmo's regular vet, so we knew they were good, but last night they went above and beyond and they really helped us get through the horrible experience.
Re: Traumatic night...
Oh Eli, I'm so glad he is doing better. It must have been a scary moment for your family to see what was going on with him.
My t&p go out to little Elmo, hope he has a speedy recovery.
